鈥淢y colleagues complained that a 15-minute doctor鈥檚 visit wasn鈥檛 enough to diagnose and treat. What if someone forgot to ask a question, or didn鈥檛 understand? I saw a need for reliable health education outside the doctor鈥檚 office.鈥� That鈥檚 when the idea for Asthenis was born.
He gave up a job opportunity at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, returned to the Providence neighborhood he grew up in, and poured heart, soul, and savings into launching Asthenis.
鈥淚 didn鈥檛 want to focus on just the clinical health side鈥攑eople are more complex than that,鈥� he explains. 鈥淧eople have trouble eating, sleeping, don鈥檛 know where to live.鈥�
So Asthenis dispenses not just prescriptions, but also health education and resources. 鈥淲e don鈥檛 turn anyone away. We point them in the right direction. Even if they don鈥檛 need a prescription, people can come in and ask questions. It鈥檚 an initial triage. We help patients decide whether to go to the ER, or if they can help themselves, or wait for a doctor鈥檚 visit. We help them make informed decisions.鈥�
