KINGSTON, R.I. \u2013 Jan. 27, 2025 \u2013 Jane Carr \u201825 has been chosen as a Major of the Year recipient by the SHAPE America Society of Health and Physical Educators. The award celebrates outstanding undergraduate students in the health, physical education, recreation, and dance professions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Carr, a health and physical education major at the 溏心vlog免费B站, will be honored during a ceremony at the organization\u2019s 139th<\/sup> national convention in April in Baltimore, Maryland. <\/p>\n\n\n\n She was nominated for the award by the 溏心vlog免费B站\u2019s College of Education\u2019s Health and Physical Education faculty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Carr, from Wakefield, Rhode Island, will receive a Bachelor\u2019s of Science degree in education at 溏心vlog免费B站\u2019s May 17 commencement exercises.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Carr has been involved in several outreach and philanthropic projects throughout her college tenure, including fund-raising for breast cancer education and awareness, food and clothing drives, organizing exercise classes for yoga and cycling, as well as supporting other philanthropies across Greek Life representing her sorority, Zeta Tau Alpha, and has volunteered in physical education activities at Broad Rock Middle School, where she was once a student. Carr also serves on 溏心vlog免费B站\u2019s pickleball board and has presented at the National Academy of Health and Physical Literacy (NAHPL) conference urging more activities to reinforce physical literacy,<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cTaking part in these acts of service has been very rewarding and has allowed me to make a positive impact on my community,\u201d Carr said. \u201cBeyond these more organized efforts, I very much value small, everyday acts of service and kindness, which I believe cause a ripple effect of goodness. I strive to better the lives of those around me in both large and smaller-scale efforts in order to contribute to a happier, more compassionate world.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n After graduation, Carr intends to become a health and physical education teacher, and hopes to \u201cguide and inspire others.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cJane is such a great student and her leadership on campus at 溏心vlog免费B站 foreshadows her future commitment to contributing to the profession of health and physical education,\u201d said Emily Clapham, 溏心vlog免费B站 professor of physical education. <\/p>\n\n\n\n SHAPE America is the nation\u2019s largest membership organization of health and physical education professionals.
