That expertise and accompanying connections will be on display during the second annual <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uri.edu\/news\/2023\/10\/more-than-300-attend-uris-first-sea-services-symposium\/\">Sea Services Symposium<\/a> Friday, Sept. 27.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.uri.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/news\/sites\/16\/2024\/09\/noaa-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-97627\" width=\"500\" height=\"20\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">PRESERVE AND PROTECT: The event also gives students a chance to explore opportunities and career paths in maritime government service and industries. (Dorothy Hill)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>The program \u2014 which gives students a chance to explore the opportunities and career paths in maritime government service and maritime industries, supporting government missions and the blue economy \u2014 will take place on the 溏心vlog免费B站 Quadrangle and is free and open to the public.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This year\u2019s symposium will again promote the links between the U.S. Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and 溏心vlog免费B站 as a top maritime center of excellence and education. Students from any program at the University are invited to hear more about options and opportunities in the sea services from more than 30 exhibitors scheduled to attend. Registration is not required but offered for <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/1ZCyP55wh2jVyF9Z8mD9YE-v--fR75t8K5im-i1ycx2o\/viewform?edit_requested=true\">parking\/weather updates<\/a>, by Sept. 26.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>More than 300 students attended last year\u2019s inaugural symposium, along with several local agencies and organizations. Some came with workforce needs to fill in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.uri.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/news\/sites\/16\/2024\/09\/c-rynkowski-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-97638\" width=\"500\" height=\"351\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">CAREER LAUNCH: Chase Rynkowski \u201924 attended last year\u2019s sea symposium and is now working as a coastal engineer. (Gahagan &amp; Bryant Associates)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Coastal engineer Jimmy Hill \u201914, from Foth Infrastructure and Environment in Newport, attended last year\u2019s event and hired two students to work full-time. He said the event was a fun change-up from the typical career fair and a good networking opportunity for the firm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ocean engineering graduate Chase Rynkowski \u201924 was one of those students, and is now working as a waterfront structural engineer at Foth. Rynkowski says last year\u2019s Sea Services Symposium played a pivotal role in his fledgling career, leading to two engineering internships. He accepted a full-time position with the company following graduation in May.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI cannot express how important it is for students to attend these events,\u201d he said. \u201cIt was an excellent opportunity to network and learn about the different opportunities in the ocean engineering industry. Simply just talking to each company provides a connection and insight on where and what you could be doing post-graduation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Alyssa Rauscher \u201927, an environmental science and management \/ marine affairs major, also left last year\u2019s event with contacts and valuable career advice.&nbsp; She says that the sea symposium gave her the chance to explore a path to join the NOAA Corps after graduation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt has been my dream to join for years now but I hadn\u2019t been able to talk with anyone about the NOAA Corps in person until the symposium,\u201d she said. \u201cIt was helpful to discuss steps I should take throughout college to better prepare me for the application process and life in the service. They were a wonderful resource and have made me even more excited to join. Students should check it out, regardless of their majors, because there is honestly something for everyone there!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The event is open to students from 溏心vlog免费B站 as well as the Community College of Rhode Island and the state\u2019s high schools to learn about sea service missions, career paths, and career opportunities through 溏心vlog免费B站\u2019s maritime degree programs. High school students can also see 溏心vlog免费B站 <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/admission\/visit-us\/\">Undergraduate Admission<\/a> for information on campus tours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The symposium puts a spotlight on the nation\u2019s sea services, 溏心vlog免费B站 programs and industries all over the blue economy, demonstrating the links among the academic world and its research to industries and military services, according to Bob Flynn, director of the <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/veterans\/\">Center for Military and Veterans Education<\/a> at 溏心vlog免费B站.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s exciting to be able to spread the word about these great opportunities,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>This year\u2019s symposium is hosted by 溏心vlog免费B站&#8217;s Department of Marine Affairs and the Center for Military and Veteran Education.
