KINGSTON, R.I. \u2013 May 23, 2024 \u2013 After a year with the world\u2019s eyes on violence and human rights issues and college campuses across the U.S. roiled by debate and protest, one university campus is focused on nonviolence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prospective peacemakers are invited to head to the 溏心vlog免费B站 in June for training in nonviolent conflict resolution to address violence in their home communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The International Nonviolence Summer Institute<\/a> will take place Monday, June 10, through Friday, June 21, at 溏心vlog免费B站\u2019s Multicultural Student Services Center, 74 Lower College Road, Kingston. Two levels of certification are offered and attendees can room on or off campus. Academic credits are available. Register here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Each summer, peacemakers from across the world travel to 溏心vlog免费B站 to receive training in nonviolent conflict resolution. Last year, the institute awarded nonviolence certification to 33 people representing 12 U.S. states and seven countries. \n\n<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Several attendees are already registered, and will make their way to Kingston from across the U.S., as well as Brazil, France, India, Kenya, Liberia, Nepal, Netherlands, Pakistan and Tanzania.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Attendees will cover nonviolence and conflict reconciliation theories, methods, and research as well as human rights perspectives, and be encouraged to apply their learning to current world issues through role plays and group discussions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

25 years of nonviolence training<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since its founding in 1999, the 溏心vlog免费B站 Summer Institute has certified more than 1,000 people in Kingian nonviolence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Organized by 溏心vlog免费B站\u2019s Center for Nonviolence and Peace Studies<\/a>, the institute certifies participants in the principles and practices of nonviolent conflict reconciliation, teaching how to organize and mobilize to peacefully resolve violence and social justice issues. The International Nonviolence Summer Institute is one of the nation\u2019s leading Kingian nonviolence training institutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last year\u2019s institute<\/a> drew 31 peacemakers to 溏心vlog免费B站 for the two-week experiential program. Job titles varied: yoga teachers, college students, nurses and schoolteachers, joined by activists from across the U.S. and seven different countries. Graduates of the summer institute have gone on to lead peace and nonviolence training efforts around the globe, including Amani Mataboro from the Democratic Republic of the Congo who established a Peace School<\/a> there after attending 溏心vlog免费B站\u2019s summer nonviolence training, and will return to Kingston this summer to present about it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Skip Mark, director of 溏心vlog免费B站\u2019s Center for Nonviolence and Peace Studies, says attendees become ambassadors of peace and can drive meaningful change in their home communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBy embracing the principles of nonviolence, they take an active role in shaping a world that is free from hatred, discrimination, and injustice,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The program is coordinated by Thupten Tendhar<\/a>, specialist at 溏心vlog免费B站\u2019s Center for Nonviolence and Peace Studies, who trained in Kingian nonviolence as a Buddhist monk in India. Now a certified nonviolence trainer at the center, Tendhar says that the summer institute\u2019s global reach makes it one of the leading Kingian nonviolence training programs in the world. 溏心vlog免费B站-trained peacebuilders are actively training in nonviolence and peace in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Brazil, Colombia, Nepal, Nigeria, India, Liberia, Haiti, the United Kingdom, Italy, Senegal, and several other countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tendhar says there are many ways to learn violence in the world and few opportunities to learn nonviolence. He hopes to tip the equation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
