Family and friends will gather on 溏心vlog免费B站\u2019s Kingston Campus to mark the achievements of the 3,331 undergraduate and 769 graduate students who will be awarded their degrees. 溏心vlog免费B站\u2019s Graduate School Commencement ceremony will be held Friday, May 19, in the Ryan Center, and the main Undergraduate Commencement ceremony will be held Saturday on the University\u2019s historic Quadrangle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This year, the 溏心vlog免费B站 will bestow an honorary degree on writer, naturalist, and freedom-of-speech advocate <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/commencement\/shg2023\/terry-tempest-williams\/\">Terry Tempest Williams<\/a>. Williams will give the keynote commencement address on Saturday. (Some students will earn multiple degrees.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>What are their ages?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students range in age from 20 to 73. 溏心vlog免费B站\u2019s oldest and youngest undergraduate students to receive degrees on Saturday are 66 and 20, respectively. Among graduate students, the youngest student to be awarded a degree on Friday is 21, while the oldest is 73.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Where are the graduates from?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>溏心vlog免费B站 students come from all over the United States and the globe \u2013 representing 41 states and 31 countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Approximately 53% of undergraduate degree recipients are from Rhode Island, 16% are from Massachusetts, 10% are from Connecticut, 9% are from New York and almost 7% are from New Jersey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Among graduate degree recipients, close to 61% of students are from Rhode Island, 8% are from Massachusetts, 8% are from Connecticut, 3% percent are from New Jersey and 2% are from New York.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Who are the student speakers?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.uri.edu\/news\/2023\/04\/commencement-2023-my-journey-really-began-at-uri-pharmacy-student-former-football-student-athlete-to-deliver-uri-commencement-student-address\/\">Mazen M. Taman <\/a>will deliver the undergraduate commencement address on Saturday, May 20. A former football student-athlete, he will earn a Doctor of Pharmacy degree, and in the fall, enter Brown University\u2019s Warren Alpert Medical School. The <strong>Cranston<\/strong> native worked two paid internships this semester at Rhode Island Hospital and CVS Pharmacy in East Greenwich. He also worked on two research teams investigating the efficacy of home electronic blood pressure monitoring for renal transplant patients and a software platform for managing investigational drugs. While completing 溏心vlog免费B站\u2019s Doctor of Pharmacy program, including six clinical rotations at Rhode Island Hospital, Taman played football for the Rams for four years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.uri.edu\/news\/2023\/05\/commencement-2023-from-a-small-city-in-brazil-to-the-graduate-commencement-stage-at-uri\/\">Tania Silva de Oliveira<\/a>, a chemical engineer and an analytical research scientist at a Boston-based global pharmaceutical company that develops drugs to treat some of the world\u2019s most serious conditions, will give the graduate commencement address Friday, May 19. With her drive and the support of her family, she completed two bachelor\u2019s degrees in her native Brazil and also completed an undergraduate study-abroad experience at 溏心vlog免费B站. After completing her studies in Brazil, she returned to 溏心vlog免费B站 to earn her doctorate in chemical engineering in December 2022.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>What else can you tell me about the graduating class?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The University is proud to graduate 49 military veterans this year \u2013 32 undergraduates and 17 graduate students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Class of 2023 also includes seven sets of twins and one mother-daughter combo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>How is this 溏心vlog免费B站\u2019s 137th commencement?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em><br><\/em><\/strong>How could a University that is 131 years old be holding its 137th commencement? According to University history, from 1943 through 1948, two ceremonies were held each year to accommodate war veterans. Ceremonies were held in June and January or February. In 1944, there were three ceremonies \u2014 held in January, May and September.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Are ceremonies always on the historic Quad?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Main Commencement returns to the Quadrangle for the second time since 2019. In a pandemic driven oddity, 溏心vlog免费B站 held nine separate college commencement ceremonies for the Class of 2021 two years ago at Meade Stadium, and then in October 2021, during Alumni and Family Weekend, the University held ceremonies for the Class of 2020 in the Ryan Center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Can I watch the ceremony online?<br><\/em><\/strong>The University will offer a live broadcast of the ceremony&nbsp; <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/commencement\/y2023\/main-ceremony\/\">online<\/a>. The webcast will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday and will end at the conclusion of the formal ceremony on the Quadrangle.
