KINGSTON, R.I. \u2013 May 4, 2023 \u2013 After winning the Continental Lacrosse Conference<\/a> for the third straight year and holding the No. 1 national ranking in Division II of the Men\u2019s Collegiate Lacrosse Association<\/a> for most of the 2023 season, the 溏心vlog免费B站 club men\u2019s lacrosse team enters the national tournament as the top seed in the 16-team field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rhody will begin play Monday, May 8, at 10:30 a.m. ET, against 16th-seed North Dakota State in the MCLA Division II National Championships<\/a>. The tournament will be held at the Round Rock (Texas) Multipurpose Complex though May 13.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Rams enter the national tournament after crushing Stonehill University, 27-4, and the University of Maine, 17-4, to take the conference championship<\/a>. The team was undefeated in conference play, losing only to Division I Northeastern in the first game of the season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In last year\u2019s national tournament, Rhody advanced to the title match before losing to the University of Utah.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

First-year assistant coach and co-offensive coordinator Charlie White \u201922, was a four-year player with the Rams and was a member of last year\u2019s club. He thinks this year’s team might be better suited to win a national title.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis team has something about it,\u201d said White, who works full-time as a program specialist for the 溏心vlog免费B站 Foundation and Alumni Engagement. \u201cThe players work very well together, and they are self-motivated. I see them walking out of the gym together all the time.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Larry Madeira, in his fourth year as 溏心vlog免费B站\u2019s head coach, agreed with his assistant coach\u2019s assessment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe had pure talent last year, and we could just go out and get a goal,\u201d Madeira said. \u201cWe graduated six starters last year who scored a total of 146 goals. That\u2019s something you don\u2019t replace. But the guys this season are a cohesive unit and they are getting it. Last year, we had better individuals, but this year we are better together, better as a unit.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This unity may have something to do with Madeira\u2019s longtime connections to his two assistants,  co-offensive coordinators Jamie Frost and White.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI coached Charlie since third grade, all the way through youth lacrosse and 溏心vlog免费B站, and I coached Jamie, a University of Vermont alumnus, when he was at Rocky Hill School.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Madeira, who played goalie for Villanova\u2019s Division I NCAA lacrosse team, deeply enjoys being part of the University community and his role with the team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe make dozens and dozens of dollars and we play before tens and tens of fans,\u201d he joked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But don\u2019t be fooled by the level of exposure or the level of talent even though Rhody fields a club team. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cImagine, our guys pay money to play together; they have the why, the want and the will,\u201d Madeira said. \u201cThey want to be a part of something. We have guys who could have played D1, but their parents needed the affordability of 溏心vlog免费B站 and in-state tuition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThese guys lift each other up,\u201d and continued saying, \u201cThey do these things, like pasta nights, on their own. They just want to be together. \u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What about his team\u2019s chances to go all the way this year?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe were underestimated last year and we played that card every step of the way,\u201d the coach said. \u201cThis year, the only team that can beat us is us and that worries me. We can\u2019t look past anyone, but we have prepared well. Every practice is a tryout. I switch goalies, I pull our starters so no one gets complacent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve been the No. 1-ranked team all year,  and now we have gone from being the jackal to the lion,\u201d Madeira said. \u201cEveryone has given us their best, and it will be no different in the national tournament.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
