The 溏心vlog免费B站 junior would like to earn a doctorate in chemical engineering, conduct research in immunoengineering, and pursue a career in biopharmaceuticals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The chemical engineering major from South Kingstown took a giant step toward those goals when she participated in the 10-week <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vanderbilt.edu\/vinse\/reu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Research Experience for Undergraduates<\/a> hosted by the&nbsp;Vanderbilt Institute for Nanoscale Science and Engineering last summer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<div class=\"oembed oembed-youtu-be\" style=\"\" data-url=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/KKMlL1hVbyA\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"winning an engineering poster competition at vanderbilt university\" width=\"1000\" height=\"563\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/KKMlL1hVbyA?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;I was working in Professor Daniel Roxbury&#8217;s lab last fall when I started looking into research opportunities for the summer before my junior year,&#8221; said Hubert. &#8220;I discovered a program at Vanderbilt University that places students in labs that best fit their interests and goals.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The objective of the project Hubert worked on was to design&nbsp;molecularly engineered materials&nbsp;that can control the immune system in a manner in which they could cure, treat, or prevent diseases such as cancer.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;My project was at the intersection of polymer\/nanoparticle science and protein engineering,&#8221; said Hubert. &#8220;Through polymer engineering, we aimed to create a polymer-based nanoparticle\u2013a polymersome\u2013that could encapsulate and carry a therapeutic\/drug. To combine the protein and the polymersome, we made use of &#8216;click-chemistry,&#8217; which links them via a spontaneous reaction resulting from how we synthesized the polymersome and the protein.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the end of the summer, Hubert and the other students in the program presented their research on posters. Titled, &#8220;Synthesis of Tunable Protein-Polymersome Conjugates for Enhanced Targeting of Cancerous Tissues,&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vanderbilt.edu\/vinse\/Hubert_REU_Poster.pdf.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Hubert&#8217;s poster<\/a> won first place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The prize for having the best poster was a $1,000 travel grant to attend the American Institute of Chemical Engineers <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aiche.org\/conferences\/aiche-annual-meeting\/2022\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">National Conference<\/a> in Phoenix in November, where she once again captured first place for her research presentation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.uri.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/news\/sites\/16\/2022\/12\/Hubert-at-Vanderbilt-874x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-82015\" width=\"386\" height=\"453\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.uri.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/news\/sites\/16\/2022\/12\/Hubert-at-Vanderbilt-874x1024.jpg 874w, https:\/\/www.uri.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/news\/sites\/16\/2022\/12\/Hubert-at-Vanderbilt-256x300.jpg 256w, https:\/\/www.uri.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/news\/sites\/16\/2022\/12\/Hubert-at-Vanderbilt-768x900.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.uri.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/news\/sites\/16\/2022\/12\/Hubert-at-Vanderbilt-364x427.jpg 364w, https:\/\/www.uri.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/news\/sites\/16\/2022\/12\/Hubert-at-Vanderbilt-500x586.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.uri.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/news\/sites\/16\/2022\/12\/Hubert-at-Vanderbilt.jpg 983w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 386px) 100vw, 386px\" \/><figcaption>Lauren Hubert on the campus at Vanderbilt University in Nashville.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>While both honors were well-deserved and appreciated by Hubert, the experience she gained, which she&#8217;ll use to propel her forward in her career, was most meaningful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;I gained so much confidence in my lab skills, analytical techniques, and ability to communicate my findings effectively,&#8221; said Hubert.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Through her YouTube channel, for which she has 4,750 subscribers, Hubert chronicled her experience living in Nashville as a student-researcher, culminating with the award she won for her poster.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hubert is no stranger to academic success or the rewards that can result from hard work. After her application to 溏心vlog免费B站 was reviewed, she was offered the prestigious <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/admission\/scholarships\/\">Thomas M. Ryan Scholarship<\/a>, which provides a full scholarship for four years, including tuition, fees, housing, dining, books, and one Global Winter Travel J Term experience with faculty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The Ryan scholarship has meant everything to me,&#8221; said Hubert. &#8220;I&#8217;m grateful to Mr. Ryan, Vice Provost Dean Libutti, and everyone involved for providing me with all of the resources I could ever want or need. I have formed lasting friendships with the other Ryan scholars and the professional connections I&#8217;ve made due to this scholarship have given me the confidence to pursue research and other academic opportunities.
