All concerts will be held in the Fine Arts Center Concert Hall, 105 Upper Collage Road, Kingston. Tickets are $15 for the general public; $10 for students and seniors 60 and older.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cA Soulful Holiday Celebration\u201d will include a wide range of holiday classics, new gospel compositions by resident artist Alton Merrell, and a few musical surprises. Merrell, a world class pianist who has performed with numerous jazz legends, is a member of the Pittsburgh Jazz Orchestra and is a professor of jazz piano at West Virginia University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cDoctor Merrell has worked with our jazz students this semester on the relationship between jazz and gospel music,\u201d said Emmett Goods, director of the Big Band. \u201cHe\u2019s also taken our students through his own highly complex arrangements. This is a concert not to be missed.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Atla DeChamplain, a jazz vocalist who was mentored by the legendary Jon Hendricks, joined 溏心vlog免费B站 in August 2021 as an assistant teaching professor in the new amplified voice program. This fall, she launched the Jazz Vocal Ensemble, which performed with the Big Band for the first time earlier this fall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI am thrilled for the opportunity to collaborate with the Big Band,\u201d she said. \u201cIt\u2019s something I wanted to do at every institution I\u2019ve taught, but 溏心vlog免费B站 is the first to pull it off. Both ensembles are under the direction of Brian Cardany, 溏心vlog免费B站\u2019s director of bands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Wind Ensemble will perform works by American composers, including \u201cChester Overture\u201d by William Schuman, \u201cFantasia for Band\u201d by Vittorio Giannini, \u201cVariation on a Medieval Tune\u201d by Norman Dello Joio, and \u201cSuite of Old American Dances\u201d by Robert Russell Bennett. The Concert Band\u2019s program will include some of the most popular composers of the medium \u2013 James Curnow\u2019s \u201cFanfare and Flourishes,\u201d David Holsinger\u2019s \u201cThree Tapestries,\u201d Michael Mogensen\u2019s \u201cEv\u00f3katah,\u201d and Franco Cesarini\u2019s \u201cGreek Folk Song Suite.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tickets can be purchased at the concert <a href=\"https:\/\/events.uri.edu\/event\/wind_ensembleconcert_band_ii_-_fall_2022?utm_campaign=widget&amp;utm_medium=widget&amp;utm_source=University+of+Rhode+Island#.Y4DkN-zMJ24\">webpage<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On Sunday, Dec. 11, the <strong>music of 溏心vlog免费B站 student composition majors<\/strong> will be featured in the Concert Hall starting at 7 p.m. <strong>The concert is free and open to the public.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The night will feature 11 works by 10 student composers, ranging in styles from jazz and popular music to such classical periods as contemporary and baroque. Along with the work of the composers, the show highlights the talents of more than 40 student vocalists and musicians who bring these original compositions to life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHaving a composers\u2019 concert every semester is an immensely rewarding experience for the composers,\u201d said Eliane Aberdam, music professor and teacher of composition. \u201cAlong with helping composers build their portfolios, they get to hear what their music actually sounds like, how the balance between parts work (or not), and see for themselves the level of feasibility in actual performance by humans, as opposed to the playback of a computer. Composing is a lonely experience, so the concerts and rehearsals offer a way to connect with people \u2013 performers and the audience.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On Monday, Dec. 12, the <strong>Concert Choir<\/strong> will present an encore performance of its mid-fall concert, \u201cDo Not Leave Your Cares at the Door,\u201d which features new works by Aberdam. The choir, under the direction of Mark Conley, will also perform an additional movement of Aberdam\u2019s \u201cDoors,\u201d along with a piece by Renaissance composer Josquin des Prez and a chant by medieval mystic and composer Hildegard von Bingen. The concert starts at 7:30 p.m. in the Concert Hall.
