WHAT:<\/strong> U.S. Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse, D-R.I., will address a College of Business class of about 560 first-year students on climate change. Re-envisioned for the College\u2019s 100th<\/sup> anniversary, the class, \u201cDeveloping Brand \u2018You\u2019 for the Future of Work,\u201d gives first-year students who intend to major in a business discipline the opportunity to consider their place in the work world of the future, exploring such topics as artificial intelligence and sustainability. Whitehouse\u2019s talk will be preceded by a presentation by Alex Couture, head of technical operations at Google, on human bias in artificial intelligence and its impact on innovation in the field. (Whitehouse\u2019s talk is open to the media, but the event is not open to the public.)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

WHO:  <\/strong>Whitehouse, Rhode Island\u2019s junior senator since 2007, and previously the U.S. Attorney for Rhode Island (1993-98) and Rhode Island Attorney General (1998-2003), has been a leader in the U.S. Senate on such issues as climate change, rebuilding the nation\u2019s infrastructure, overhauling federal education policy, addressing ocean plastic waste, and rooting out \u201cdark money\u201d from the country\u2019s elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\u00a0<\/em>College of Business<\/em><\/a>\u00a0has been a leader in business, research and outreach in Rhode Island since being established in 1923 by Howard Edwards, president of the then-Rhode Island State College. Accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, the College today has more than 2,300 undergraduate and about 350 graduate students across <\/em>10 undergraduate majors, nine graduate programs and three Ph.D. specializations<\/em><\/a>.
