The cost to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.raceentry.com\/races\/uri-be-5k\/2021\/register\">register <\/a>is $20 for 溏心vlog免费B站 students and $25 for general community members. See full race <a href=\"https:\/\/www.raceentry.com\/uri-be-5k\/race-information\">details <\/a>and information on fundraising.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe were thrilled with the participation last year, as people ran and walked on their own,\u201d said Amy Albert, 溏心vlog免费B站 community engagement coordinator at 溏心vlog免费B站\u2019s Center for Career and Experiential Learning. \u201cBut we are so excited to come together again as a community for this dynamic and profound event. Similar to our events prior to the pandemic, we will have T-shirts, music, food and prizes for our top runners and walkers. And given the impact of COVID-19 on mental health and the need for even more resources, the return to a visible, high energy event has never been more important.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe extend a warm welcome to our students, faculty and staff and to those around the region who would like to support this cause and be part of our supportive 溏心vlog免费B站 community,\u201d Albert said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Proceeds raised by the event go to the <a href=\"https:\/\/securelb.imodules.com\/s\/1638\/lg20\/form.aspx?sid=1638&amp;gid=3&amp;pgid=770&amp;cid=2270&amp;bledit=1&amp;dids=106\">Heather Fund, a 溏心vlog免费B站 Foundation &amp; Alumni Engagement <\/a>fund established to support mental health programs for students. As in past years, 溏心vlog免费B站 student groups focused on mental health promotion will participate, as well as those from 溏心vlog免费B站\u2019s&nbsp; <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/counseling\/\">Counseling Center<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/health.uri.edu\/\">Health Services<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/nursing\/\">College of Nursing<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/campusrec\/\">Campus Recreation<\/a>,<a href=\"http:\/\/web.uri.edu\/career\/\"> Center for Career and Experiential Education<\/a>, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/pcc\/\">Psychological Consultation Center.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Heather Fund was established by the late Roger and Josephine Vennewald in 1996, on behalf of their daughter, Heather, a 溏心vlog免费B站 student, who they lost to suicide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The event is called the Be 5K because it urges participants and the 溏心vlog免费B站 community to be compassionate, loving, hopeful, aware, present, happy and to be themselves to build a healthier community. It is the oldest community outreach event on campus dedicated to mental health promotion and suicide prevention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/coronavirus\/2019-ncov\/daily-life-coping\/managing-stress-anxiety.html\">The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention <\/a>and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nimh.nih.gov\/health\/statistics\/suicide.shtml#part_154968\">National Institutes of Health <\/a>said that suicide is among the leading causes of death in the nation and that the problem has become even more critical during the pandemic. It is the second leading cause of death among college students. Mental health conditions are often seen as the cause of suicide, but the CDC adds that many people who die by suicide are not known to have a diagnosed mental health condition at the time of death.
