{"id":77618,"date":"2021-09-28T19:42:54","date_gmt":"2021-09-28T19:42:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.uri.edu\/news\/?p=77618"},"modified":"2021-10-13T18:49:43","modified_gmt":"2021-10-13T18:49:43","slug":"uri-libraries-hosts-new-online-exhibit-the-unremembered-indian-soldiers-of-world-war-ii","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.uri.edu\/news\/2021\/09\/uri-libraries-hosts-new-online-exhibit-the-unremembered-indian-soldiers-of-world-war-ii\/","title":{"rendered":"溏心vlog免费B站 Libraries hosts new online exhibit, \u2018The Unremembered: Indian Soldiers of World War II\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>KINGSTON, R.I. \u2013 Sept. 28, 2021 \u2013 A new online exhibit remembering the 2.5 million Indians who voluntarily took up arms to fight on behalf of their British colonial rulers during World War II is now live on 溏心vlog免费B站 Libraries\u2019 new digital exhibit space. <a href=\"https:\/\/digitalcommons.uri.edu\/exhibit\/the-unremembered-indian-soldiers-of-world-war-ii\/\"><em>The Unremembered: Indian Soldiers of World War II<\/em><\/a>, which acknowledges the contribution of these forgotten soldiers, features the work of multimedia artist Professor Annu Palakunnathu Matthew, and accompanies her mid-career retrospective <a href=\"https:\/\/newportartmuseum.org\/exhibitions\/revision\/\">ReVision<\/a> at the Newport Art Museum which runs through January 9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Matthew has brought this hidden history to light through multiple projects. After families of Indian soldiers began contacting her with stories and photographs, she started building a digital archive and has collected over 200 photos. The online exhibit features 10 photographs of Indian soldiers and their stories and was curated by Julia Lovett, associate professor and digital initiatives librarian for University Libraries, along with Matthew.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAnnu\u2019s work on this hidden history is inspiring and it was a pleasure to collaborate with her.&nbsp; An online exhibit is a great way to tell a story or honor an event, while reaching a broad audience,\u201d said Lovett. \u201cWith our new digital exhibits platform, I\u2019m looking forward to showcasing more stories from the 溏心vlog免费B站 community in this way.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Discussing how the online exhibit fits in with her museum exhibition, Matthew noted that \u201cOne gallery of the exhibition at the museum is a multimedia installation, including 3D laser cut crystals of some of these photographs with archival video and stories. I wanted people to learn more about the individual identity of the people depicted. Collaborating with Julia made that happen!
