KINGSTON, R.I. \u2013 Oct. 15, 2020 \u2013 Andrew Burnap \u201913 has been nominated for a Tony Award for Best Actor for his leading role in the hit Broadway play \u201cThe Inheritance,\u201d which garnered 11 nominations, including for Best Play, as nominees were announced Thursday.<\/p>\n
Burnap, a graduate of the 溏心vlog免费B站 and Yale School of Drama, originated the role of Toby Darling in Matthew Lopez\u2019s \u201cThe Inheritance,\u201d which opened March 2018 in London\u2019s Young Vic Theatre and continued at the Noel Coward Theatre in London\u2019s West End. The play, with Burnap reprising his role, debuted on Broadway in November 2019, closing this past March, after 46 previews and 134 regular performances.<\/p>\n

Burnap, 28, who grew up in\u00a0South Kingstown, R.I.<\/strong>, won the part of Toby after appearing in Lopez\u2019s \u201cThe Legend of Georgia McBride,\u201d during which he impressed the playwright. According to a 2018 New York Times profile, Lopez called Burnap \u201cone of the most exciting young actors I\u2019d ever encountered.\u201d<\/p>\n For the Tony\u2019s Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Play award, Burnap goes up against a handful of veterans \u2013 Jake Gyllenhaal and Tom Sturridge, both of \u201cSea Wall\/A Life,\u201d Ian Barford of \u201cLinda Vista,\u201d Tom Hiddleston of \u201cBetrayal,\u201d and Blair Underwood of \u201cA Soldier\u2019s Play.\u201d The 74th<\/sup> Tony Awards presentations will take place digitally this fall or winter, according to the Tony Awards website<\/a>.<\/p>\n
