  {"id":75488,"date":"2020-05-08T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2020-05-08T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.uri.edu\/news-draft\/uncategorized\/research-on-nanomaterials-earns-uri-student-excellence-in-doctoral-research-award\/"},"modified":"2020-05-08T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2020-05-08T00:00:00","slug":"research-on-nanomaterials-earns-uri-student-excellence-in-doctoral-research-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.uri.edu\/news\/2020\/05\/research-on-nanomaterials-earns-uri-student-excellence-in-doctoral-research-award\/","title":{"rendered":"Research on nanomaterials earns 溏心vlog免费B站 student  Excellence in Doctoral Research Award"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>KINGSTON, R.I. \u2013 May 8, 2020 \u2013 In the five years that Akram Abbasi was a doctoral student in the chemical engineering program at the 溏心vlog免费B站, her research on nanomaterials for different applications led to published articles in highly-rated professional journals and presentations at national meetings.<\/p>\n<p>Abbasi&#8217;s outstanding work also earned her the 2020 Excellence in Doctoral Research Award from the 溏心vlog免费B站 Graduate School, and the respect of her professors.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m extremely honored to receive this award,&#8221; said Abbasi, who is from Iran. &#8220;I think it&#8217;s the perfect ending to my five-year journey at 溏心vlog免费B站.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>During Abbasi&#8217;s doctoral studies, her research on nanomaterials covered such applications as biomedicine, environmental remediation, composite materials and sensing.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I chose to work on nanoscale materials because of their fascinating physical, chemical and biological properties, which are considerably different from those of their macro-scale counterparts, which have led to the considerable growth of nanotechnology over the last decade,&#8221; said Abbasi.<\/p>\n<p>The properties of nanomaterials were described in Abbasi&#8217;s dissertation, titled, \u201cNanomaterials for Sensing, Heating and Applications in Composites and Emulsion Biofouling.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_56567\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-56567\" style=\"width: 450px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.uri.edu\/news-draft\/wp-content\/uploads\/news\/sites\/16\/2021\/05\/Akram-and-professors.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-56567 no-hang \" src=\"https:\/\/www.uri.edu\/news-draft\/wp-content\/uploads\/news\/sites\/16\/2021\/05\/Akram-and-professors.jpg\" alt=\"Engineering Professor Arijit Bose. Akram Abbasi, Professor Geoffrey Bothun<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Abbasi&#8217;s co-advisors at 溏心vlog免费B站, Professor Geoffrey Bothun and Distinguished Engineering Professor Arijit Bose, recommended her for the graduate school award.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I was delighted to give Akram my highest recommendation for the doctoral research award,&#8221; said Bose. &#8220;She&#8217;s been published in some of the leading journals in our field and made eight presentations of her doctoral work at national meetings.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Since August 2019, Abbasi has conducted postdoctoral research at Brown University in the Shukla Laboratory for Designer Biomaterials.
