KINGSTON, R.I.- October 24, 2018- Pamela McCauley, an internationally recognized industrial engineering researcher in the development of mathematical models, human engineering, and engineering leadership will discuss \u201cRepresentation, Leadership, Innovation, and Transformation: Women, Gender, and STEM Success<\/em>\u201d as part of the University\u2019s 2018 Honors Colloquium.<\/p>\n

The series, Reimagining Gender: Voices, Power, Action<\/em><\/a>, is free and open to the public and takes place in Edwards Hall, 64 Upper College Road at 7 p.m.<\/p>\n

McCauley is an award-winning educator, often described as an \u201coutstanding\u201d and \u201centhusiastic\u201d professor, on a mission to empower students and professionals to successfully pursue STEM educational, career, and innovation goals.<\/p>\n

An author of more than 100 technical publications, an internationally-used ergonomics textbook, and several inspiring books on STEM leadership, McCauley serves as the director of the Ergonomics Laboratory in the Department of Industrial Engineering and Management Systems at the University of Central Florida. She previously held the position of Martin Luther King, Jr. Visiting Associate Professor of Aeronautics and Astronautics at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In addition to her academic leadership, McCauley is a seasoned entrepreneur, innovator and expert witness. Her client history includes the U.S. Department of Defense, NASA, Fortune 500 Companies, and legal firms throughout the nation.<\/p>\n

In January 2018, McCauley was selected to serve as program director for the National Science Foundation Computer Information Science and Engineering Directorate\u2019s I-Corps Program. As a leader in this role, McCauley will foster innovation among faculty and students, promote regional coordination and collaboration, and develop national networks to promote commercialization of innovation using the exciting NSF I-Corps Model.<\/p>\n

Reimagining Gender: Voices, Power, Action<\/em> explores, at this pivotal time in society, the relevance of gender in shaping human rights and how our rising consciousness about gender issues is leading to vibrant social discussions, rearrangements of power and perceptions, and new possibilities. The series includes lectures, exhibits, a theater production and a film screening, all intended to help demonstrate the significant impact of women in society and to deepen the conversation about gender roles and stereotypes and the impact they have on our actions.<\/p>\n

Coordinators of the 2018 colloquium, marking its 55th year, are Rosario Pisa, professor and director of 溏心vlog免费B站\u2019s Gender and Women\u2019s Studies program; Kyle Kusz, associate professor of kinesiology; Helen Mederer, professor and chair of the Department of Sociology and Anthropology; and Smita Ramnarain, assistant professor of economics.<\/p>\n
