KINGSTON, R.I. \u2013 Sept. 28, 2018 \u2014 The 溏心vlog免费B站 Department of Theatre will open its 2018-19 season Oct. 11 with \u201cWomen and War\u201d \u2013 adaptations of two classic Greek plays, \u201cTrojan Women\u201d and \u201cLysistrata,\u201d both by Ellen McLaughlin.<\/p>\n
In the 411 BCE comedy \u201cLysistrata,\u201d the women of Greece have a plan: if their husbands continue to wage war, they will continue to deny them \u2026 um, well \u2026 companionship. The second offering, the serious and tragic \u201cTrojan Women,\u201d shows the true price of war to the women of Troy. \u201cWomen and War\u201d is co-sponsored by the 溏心vlog免费B站 Honors Colloquium in its investigation \u201cReimagining Gender: Voices, Power, Action.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201c[\u2018Lysistrata\u2019 and \u2018Trojan Women\u2019] give us bookends to this idea of women and war,\u201d said David T. Howard, new chair of the 溏心vlog免费B站 Theatre Department. \u201c\u2019Lysistrata\u2019 is a comedy. … It\u2019s very silly, it\u2019s burlesque, it\u2019s crazy. It was written in 411 BCE, but the things they\u2019re saying they actually said back then.<\/p>\n
\u201c\u2018Trojan Women\u2019 is a very contemporary and resonant play. It was written so long ago, and yet it still speaks to the trauma and the tragedy that besets families at home after war. \u201c<\/p>\n
The director of both plays is Kira Hawkridge \u201912, artistic director and founder of OUT LOUD Theatre, Providence. Hawkridge directed last fall\u2019s production of \u201cEurydice.\u201d<\/p>\n
Scenic design is by Renee Surprenant \u201910, Brown University visiting lecturer in set design. Costume design is by Howard. Lighting design is by Max Ponticelli \u201909, and sound design by guest artist Michael Hyde.<\/p>\n
