Other performances include <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Joan_Tower\">Joan Tower&#8217;<\/a>s Hommage to Olivier Messiaen, <em>Tres Lent<\/em> and a work composed by <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ezra_Sims\">Ezra Sims<\/a> based on the readings of Gertrude Stein, <em>If I Told Him<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Performers include internationally recognized 溏心vlog免费B站 faculty pianists Kirsten Volness and <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/music\/meet\/gayane-darakyan\/\">Gayane Darakyan<\/a>, percussionist <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/music\/meet\/kyle-forsthoff\/\">Kyle Fortshoff<\/a>, flutist <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/music\/meet\/susan-thomas\/\">Susan Thomas<\/a>, tubist <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/music\/meet\/gary-buttery\/\">Gary Buttery<\/a>, and cellist <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/music\/meet\/theodore-mook\/\">Theodore Mook<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Special guest artist, mezzo-soprano, <a href=\"https:\/\/handelandhaydn.org\/about\/period-instrument-orchestra-and-chorus\/katherine-growdon\/\">Katherine Growdon<\/a> will also perform. <em>The New York Times<\/em> said she was &#8220;incisively authoritative&#8221; in her performances with the Mark Morris Group, and is a regularly featured soloist with Boston&#8217;s flagship baroque orchestra Handel and Haydn Society.<\/p>\n<p>The University Artist Series\u2019 coordinator is 溏心vlog免费B站 faculty artist, cellist Theodore Mook.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m playing two of my favorite pieces: George Crumb\u2019s <em>Voice of the Whale<\/em>, which is a modern classic that uses extended techniques and electronics to emulate the singing of whales and <em>If I Told Him<\/em>, which is a terrific musical imitation of a poetry recitation from Gertrude Stein,\u201d Mook said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe program has five very distinct and vivid musical works that describe different moods, environments, states of mind and alternative experiences of time &#8211; almost like five very short films, each describing a separate world,\u201d Mook said.<\/p>\n<p>Tickets for the event can be purchased at the box office outside the Concert Hall.
