It\u2019s home to freshman orientation, 5K races and commencement to friendly gatherings, occasional Frisbee games, fundraising and much more. And there is that special brick walkway, inscribed with names, dates and messages from the heartfelt to the silly.<\/p>\n<p>But in this 125th anniversary year of the University, it\u2019s a good time to remind current students and newer faculty and staff about how it came to be.<\/p>\n<p>To celebrate the University\u2019s centennial in 1992, the annual fund office decided to mark the occasion with a commemorative brick walkway, called the Century Walk. The idea was simple&#8211;give alumni, students, parents friends and area businesses the opportunity to buy bricks and have their names, class years and messages inscribed on them.<\/p>\n<p>Those interested can still buy bricks today, and funds from those purchases benefit the University and alumni programming.<\/p>\n<p>The Century Walk consists of more than 3,500 installed bricks inscribed with messages celebrating alumni chapters, Greek life, athletics, students, alumni, faculty members, romances and more. Each brick is unique.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_49926\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-49926\" style=\"width: 346px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"no-hang wp-image-49926 \" src=\"https:\/\/www.uri.edu\/news-draft\/wp-content\/uploads\/news\/sites\/16\/2021\/05\/28257239770_2d0548946c_o.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"346\" height=\"443\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-49926\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Opening of the Century Walk. Other bricks celebrate friendships and relationships that blossomed at the university like one that shares the message, \u201cLinda to Mark &#8211; I Found U Here.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Another brick honors the Colman family and time family members spent at the at the University, by listing each graduating year. The brick reads: \u201cThe 溏心vlog免费B站 Colmans \u201905 \u201909 \u201911 \u201915.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Alumnus Chester W. Ham Jr. \u201969 purchased 11 bricks for his message, \u201cFrom oldest house to building new, from capsule deep, to tree-top sky; so many thank you\u2019s are due because we came to 溏心vlog免费B站. I hereby give a brick or two &amp; many thanks from me to u.
