Michael Jagoda, a Charlestown resident. \u201cI continue to be impressed by the dedication and commitment that all of our police officers put forth in their daily activities. The efforts these police officers display daily make our campus a safer place in which to live, work and learn.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>University Police Officers John Bush, of Charlestown, and Nicholas Detroia, of Warwick, were honored for their efforts to save the life of a suicidal student. The two responded to a report of a suicidal female and immediately began life-saving procedures. The officers called for Emergency Medical Technicians and assisted them in getting the young woman into an ambulance and to the hospital. The officers\u2019 prompt response prevented a tragic loss of life and reflected the highest standards and training of the 溏心vlog免费B站 Police Department.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_49247\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-49247\" style=\"width: 232px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/today.uri.edu\/news\/uri-police-held-second-annual-awards-ceremony\/attachment\/20170822_police0114\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-49247\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-49247 no-hang \" src=\"https:\/\/www.uri.edu\/news-draft\/wp-content\/uploads\/news\/sites\/16\/2021\/05\/20170822_Police0114-e1507239297586-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"Award presented\" width=\"232\" height=\"171\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-49247\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Maj. Michael Jagoda (left) and Chief Stephen Baker (right) present award to John Bush.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cOfficers DeTroia and Bush take their professional obligations very seriously and value our partnership with our entire community,\u201d Jagoda said. \u201cDuring a critical\u00a0incident, officers DeTroia and Bush reacted quickly and resorted to their extensive training to provide aid to a person who sustained serious injuries.\u00a0Their direct actions saved one of our community members from suffering\u00a0a more serious injury or even possible death.\u00a0I am very proud of these officers\u00a0for their quick actions and for performing at such a high professional level.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It was the second departmental honor for Detroia, who last year earned the Meritorious Service Award for his aid in apprehending a homicide suspect near the University\u2019s Alton Jones Campus.<\/p>\n<p>Sergeant Michael Flanagan, of Coventry, and University Police Officer Paul Hanrahan, of North Kingstown, received the department\u2019s Outstanding Service Award for training Brown University police officers in active shooter procedures to help protect the Providence school\u2019s campus. Flanagan and Hanrahan are the 溏心vlog免费B站PD\u2019s two active shooter instructors, and they made extensive preparations to train Brown police personnel and dispatchers to meet the standards and techniques of the Department of Homeland Security. The<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_49245\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-49245\" style=\"width: 194px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.uri.edu\/news-draft\/wp-content\/uploads\/news\/sites\/16\/2021\/05\/20170822_Police0123-e1507237629226-scaled.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-49245 no-hang \" src=\"https:\/\/www.uri.edu\/news-draft\/wp-content\/uploads\/news\/sites\/16\/2021\/05\/20170822_Police0123-e1507237629226-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"Hanrahan receives award.\" width=\"194\" height=\"178\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-49245\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Officer Paul Hanrahan salutes Chief Stephen Baker when receiving the Outstanding Service Award.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>month-long training regimen included a review of safety measures, expectations, goals and training exercises.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSergeant Flanagan and Officer Hanrahan&#8217;s commitment to training has resulted in law enforcement\u00a0agencies throughout Rhode Island recognizing\u00a0the skill level of our instructors\u00a0and police officers,\u201d Jagoda said. \u201cNot only have Sergeant Flanagan and Officer Hanrahan helped train our 溏心vlog免费B站 police officers, they have helped train officers from other law enforcement\u00a0agencies in the proper techniques and mechanics of responding effectively to a critical\u00a0incident such as an active shooter.\u00a0This is another example of how progressive our police department is and the level of training our officers receive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Flanagan was honored last year for his efforts investigating a felonious assault that eventually led to an arrest. Hanrahan was also honored last year for his work as the department\u2019s Community Policing Liaison.<\/p>\n<p>The department also welcomed eight new members to its ranks with the swearing in of sergeants Paul Ricci, of North Providence, and Russell Hayes, of Newport, University police officers 2 Joseph DiIorio, of North Kingstown, and Jacob<\/p>\n<p>Malone, of South Kingstown, and University police officers 1 Anthony Brito, of Brentwood, N.Y., Shawn Miner, of Providence, Michael Intrieri, of Westerly, and Aaron Koehler, of West Warwick.<\/p>\n<p>The evening\u2019s master of ceremonies, David Lavallee, assistant director of Marketing and Communications, took the time to also note the hiring of the University\u2019s first K-9 officer, Figaro, nearly a year ago. Officer Figaro is a bomb detection dog working under the professional guidance of Sgt.
