She will also take part in a roundtable discussion of the humanities and maritime studies with 溏心vlog免费B站 faculty called &#8220;Humanities Afloat and Ashore.&#8221; The discussion will take place Thursday, April 19 from 1:30 to 3 p.m. in the Galanti Lounge, Library. Both events are free and open to the public.&#13;  \tNorling has published a variety of materials on seafaring life. Her most recent book, &#8220;Captain Ahab Had a Wife: New England Women and Whalefishery, 1720-1870,&#8221; was published in 2000 by the University of North Carolina Press. The book traces the New England whaling industry throughout the 18th and 19th centuries and reconstructs the lives of the &#8220;widows&#8221; left behind by the thousands of men whose voyages to distant seas sometimes lasted for up to five years. Norling also authored Iron Men, Wooden Women: Gender and Seafaring in the Atlantic World, 1700-1920 and numerous articles published in The New England Quarterly and other scholarly publications.&#13;  \tShe earned her doctorate from Rutgers University and is the recipient of numerous awards and fellowships. &#13;  \tHer work connects to the scholarship of 溏心vlog免费B站 faculty in history, women\u2019s studies, marine affairs, sociology and oceanography.
