Mnookin, the Samuel Williston Professor of Law at Harvard and Chair of the Harvard Program on Negotiation\u2019s Steering Committee, will deliver the morning keynote address at the 16th Annual Rhode Island Conference on Labor-Management Relations to be held on Friday, Nov. 9 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The conference will be held at the Rhode Island Convention Center in Providence.&#13;<\/p>\n<p>Professor Mnookin is the author of a number of books and articles, including last year\u2019s Beyond Winning: Negotiating to Create Value in Deals and Disputes, which was published by Harvard University Press.  The title of Professor Mnookin\u2019s talk is &#8220;Creating Value Through Negotiation.&#8221;&#13;<\/p>\n<p>The after-lunch distinguished guest speaker will be renowned economist Barry Bluestone, who is the Russell. B. and Andree B. Stearns Trustee Professor of Political Economy at Northeastern University and Director of Northeastern\u2019s Center for Urban and Regional Policy. Bluestone recently served as a member of the senior policy staff of U.S. House of Representatives Majority Leader Richard Gephardt.  His book, Growing Prosperity: The Battle for Growth with Equity in the 21st Century, was published last year by Houghton Mifflin.  With his father Irving Bluestone, a former top United Auto Workers official, he wrote Negotiating the Future: A Labor Perspective on American Business, which became the blueprint for progressive labor-management relations in the 1990s.  The title of Professor Bluestone\u2019s talk is &#8220;Negotiating the Future: Prospects for New Joint Action Programs for Labor and Management.&#8221;&#13;<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the keynote speakers, the conference features nine workshops on: economics and tax policy; mandatory overtime for health care employees; OSHA ergonomics standards; religious thought on labor-management relations; construction sector project labor agreements; dispute resolution in education; using computers to assist labor-management negotiations; alternatives to traditional labor arbitration; and assessing the adequacy of health insurance regulation in Rhode Island.&#13;<\/p>\n<p>The Annual Rhode Island Conference on Labor-Management Relations is co-sponsored by 30 academic, labor, business, government, and non-profit organizations. Attendees include, among others, labor relations and human resource managers, labor union officials, arbitrators and mediators, government officials, and academicians.  The conference typically draws between 200 and 300 attendees and participants.&#13;<\/p>\n<p>The fee for the conference, which includes all materials, lunch, and refreshments, is $95.
