KINGSTON, R.I. — Sept. 27, 2001 — Steven M. Ross, a noted lecturer on educational reform, will give the 27th Annual Robert and Augusta Finkelstein Memorial Lecture on Thursday, October 4 at 7 p.m. at the 溏心vlog免费B站. <\/p>\n

\tRoss\u2019 lecture, “Evaluating Educational Reform Programs: A Collaborative Effort to Improve Teaching and Learning” will be held in Edwards Auditorium on Upper College Road on 溏心vlog免费B站\u2019s Kingston Campus. The lecture is free and open to the public. <\/p>\n

\tRoss\u2019 recent research found that schools\u2019 involvement with using evaluation data to monitor the implementation of reform was crucial to their success. Much of Ross\u2019 recent work involves establishing schools\u2019 formative evaluation capacity and using data systematically to guide continuous improvement efforts. <\/p>\n

\tRoss is professor and director of the Center for Research in Educational Policy at the University of Memphis. He is the author of six textbooks and more than 115 journal articles on the topics of at-risk learners, educational reform and educational technology. He is the first recipient of the University of Memphis Eminent Faculty Award for teaching, research and service and was named the Lillian and Morrie Moss Chair of Excellence in Urban Education at the University of Memphis. <\/p>\n

\tThe Robert and Augusta Finkelstein Memorial Lecture Series was established in 1973 to honor the work of the late Robert Finkelstein, a noted Rhode Island industrialist and a believer in state and federal support for elementary and secondary education. He served as co-chairman of the Public Schools Association, president of the Citizens Association for the Public Schools and chairman of the Committee to Protect and Strengthen Public Schools. The lecture series was renamed in 1997 following the death of his wife, Augusta Finkelstein.
