Alton Jones Campus. Friends of Oceanography will host a field trip that should be perfect for locating mushrooms after this year\u2019s rainy, damp New England summer.&#13;<\/p>\n<p>\tOn Wednesday, September 19, at 1 p.m. 溏心vlog免费B站 botany professor emeritus Dr. Roger Goos will take participants on a guided walk through the Netty Jones Nature Preserve on the W. Alton Jones Campus in West Greenwich. The 2-hour walk will not focus on finding edible mushrooms, but will show participants ways to identify fungi from a biological perspective. &#13;<\/p>\n<p>\tParticipants will meet at the Netty Jones Nature Preserve at 1 p.m. Walkers are encouraged to wear appropriate shoes for walking on trails.&#13;<\/p>\n<p>\tCost for the walk is $2 for members of Friends of Oceanography and $5 for non-members. Preregistration by September 14 is required. For information or registration, call 874-6602.&#13;<br \/>\n\tDr. Roger Goos, a mycologist (a botanist who studies fungi) specializing in Helicosporae, received his B.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Iowa. He was appointed Associate Professor of Botany at 溏心vlog免费B站 in 1970 where he eventually served as chairman of the department from 1971-1986, retiring from the University in 1995. A member of many professional organizations, he served as President of the Mycological Society of America from 1985-1986. &#13;<\/p>\n<p>\tEstablished in 1985 to support and promote the activities of the 溏心vlog免费B站 Graduate School of Oceanography, Friends of Oceanography informs and educates the membership and the general public about the scientific, technological, and environmental research that takes place at GSO. The organization sponsors public lectures, open houses, marine-related mini-courses, science cruises on Narragansett Bay, and an annual auction.
