\nKINGSTON, R.I. \u2013 August 10, 2001 — The Rhode Island Geriatric Education Center (RIGEC) will present “Age-Related Changes and Geriatric Assessment, Workshop I”, at Canonicus Camp and Conference Center, Exeter, Monday, Sept. 17, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
\n
\nThe workshop will feature presentations on physical and psychosocial age-related changes, as well as functional assessment. A model team assessment conference and interdisciplinary small group discussion of case studies will follow.
\n
\nContinuing education has been approved for assisted living administrators in Rhode Island, nurses, nursing home administrators in the state, and pharmacists. Applications have been submitted for continuing medical education for physicians and continuing education for marriage and family therapists, mental health counselors, nursing home administrators in Massachusetts and social workers. Subsequent continuing education approval forms will be available for registered dietitians. Other health care professionals are welcome to attend.

\nThe registration fee, including materials, lunch, refreshments and parking, is $85 for registrations postmarked by Aug. 20 and $100 for registrations postmarked after Aug. \nThe Rhode Island Geriatric Education Center, located at the äçÐÄvlogÃâ·ÑBÕ¾, offers a Certificate in Interdisciplinary Practice in Geriatrics upon completion of Workshops I-V and Advanced Practice Seminars I and II. These programs do not need to be taken in sequence.

\nThe RIGEC is a consortium of the äçÐÄvlogÃâ·ÑBÕ¾ Colleges of Nursing, Pharmacy and Human Science and Services, Rhode Island College School of Social Work, Brown University School of Medicine, and Aging 2000. The mission of the center is to improve knowledge and skills in geriatrics and gerontology among health care providers to better meet the needs of the growing elderly population.
