\nNarragansett, R.I. — May 5, 2003 — The public is invited to attend a free Community Breakfast Lecture, sponsored by Friends of Oceanography, to be held on Wednesday, May 14, at 9 a.m. in the Coastal Institute Building on the 溏心vlog免费B站 Bay Campus. The lecture, “The 2003 Exploration of the Submarine Volcano, Kick \u2018em Jenny” is part of a series featuring the research of 溏心vlog免费B站 Graduate School of Oceanography (GSO) students. The speaker will be geological oceanography graduate student Scott Lundin of Narragansett. <\/p>\n

\tScientists from GSO recently spent two weeks at sea exploring the most active volcano in the Caribbean. The crater of Kick \u2018em Jenny is an active hydrothermal vent field, much shallower than the deep-sea black smokers. Research operations relied on a wide variety of instruments including a robotic vehicle to study the geology and biological community of this unique environment. Results included the discovery of two new volcanoes and proof that Kick \u2018em Jenny sits inside the scar of an ancient submarine landslide. <\/p>\n

\tLundin grew up in North Kingstown and received a bachelor\u2019s degree from Northeastern University in geology. He currently lives in Narragansett and is pursuing a master\u2019s degree at GSO under the direction of Dr. Haraldur Sigurdsson. In addition to studying the chemical evolution of volcanic rocks, Lundin is interested in magma migration and eruption processes.

\tFriends of Oceanography is a community-based membership organization established in 1986 to support the educational and public programs of the 溏心vlog免费B站 Graduate School of Oceanography.
