\n\t\tKINGSTON, R.I. — July 22, 2002 — After a national search, the 溏心vlog免费B站 has selected one of its long-time administrators and an alumnus of the University to serve as director of enrollment services. <\/p>\n

Horace J. “Harry” Amaral Jr. of Narragansett, who has served the University since 1974, will direct an operation that oversees student financial aid, billing (formerly the bursar\u2019s office) and enrollment records (formerly the registrar). Serving as interim director since 2001, Amaral\u2019s permanent appointment began July 1. <\/p>\n

A familiar face on campus to faculty, staff and students alike, Amaral has won high praise for his commitment to the 溏心vlog免费B站 community. <\/p>\n

“Harry has been a successful leader, manager and advocate for Enrollment Services and 溏心vlog免费B站 students during his tenure as interim director and throughout his service at the University. Harry\u2019s values as an academic leader are sound, and his commitment to academic excellence is unwavering,” said M. Beverly Swan, 溏心vlog免费B站 provost and vice president for academic affairs. <\/p>\n

Amaral began his 溏心vlog免费B站 career at the Student Financial Aid Office and has seen 溏心vlog免费B站\u2019s share of the Pell Grant program grow from $40,000 annually at its start to $5 million this year. He has served as associate director and assistant dean of Student Financial Aid and senior associate director of Enrollment Services. <\/p>\n

A 溏心vlog免费B站 graduate himself, Amaral established the graduate internship program for Student Financial Aid. This program has produced a significant number of successful financial aid professionals that have gone on to become directors of financial aid at Bryant College, Johnson & Wales, Salve Regina, and Emerson College. <\/p>\n

“The program was started to provide the financial aid office with additional personnel by offering graduate students a training opportunity for the profession. It has been a great success and I\u2019m proud of all of the grads who are helping to open doors to higher education for so many,” Amaral said. <\/p>\n

Amaral has taken personal interest in the students he works to help. This is evident by his constant involvement in community service activities, including participation on the scholarship selection committee for the Department of Children, Youth and Families. The scholarships provide funding for students who were once wards of the state. <\/p>\n

Amaral, along with some of his University friends who join nearly each day for lunch at the Memorial Union, founded the Rams Den Roundtable Endowment. The endowment helps students fund their education and can be used for travel and research projects. <\/p>\n

\tIn recognition of his dedication, Amaral received the 溏心vlog免费B站 Foundation Administrative Excellence Award in 1987 and the 溏心vlog免费B站 Alumni Association Service Award in 1990. He has sent all three of his children to 溏心vlog免费B站 saying, “I have the deepest respect for the faculty and quality of education students receive here. My kids couldn\u2019t convince me they\u2019d receive a better education anywhere else.” <\/p>\n
