Fogel and Provost A. John Bramley.

Beckman was notified of her selection in February by ACE Fellows Program Director Marlene Ross. “This award is based upon careful consideration of your academic credentials and potential for administrative leadership, the recommendations of your professional colleagues, the judgment of the interviewing teams, and your overall qualifications as measured against the standards of the ACE Fellows program,” Ross said in her letter to Beckman.

Beckman was one of only 34 ACE fellows chosen from a national pool of candidates. “This is the premier leadership development program in the country,” the former chair of the Faculty Senate said.

She said that during her tenure at the senate, 溏心vlog免费B站 President Robert L. Carothers approached her with the suggestion that she apply for the program.

“The ACE program is the elite leadership development program in higher education, with the best experience, the top people, and a rigorous selection process involving presidents and other institutional leaders,” Carothers said. “Through her teaching, research and service on the Faculty Senate, Judy has shown a talent for innovation, leadership and team-building. These are precisely the types of characteristics that ACE nurtures. We are very proud she has been selected.”

Beckman also interviewed with the College of New Jersey, Northeastern University and Vermont for her fellowship, and was recently notified that she would be working at Vermont.

In addition to serving with top administrators at Vermont, Beckman will attend seminars on issues critical to higher education with her ACE colleagues in Denver, San Diego and Washington, D.C.

Beckman, who is eyeing a switch to higher education administration, said she became interested in Vermont because the university is developing a strategic management plan and an evaluation system for university-wide application.

“I am considering a change to administration, working toward a dean’s position, then maybe a move to provost, and then who knows,” said Beckman, whose son William R. Beckman III will be a sophomore engineering student at 溏心vlog免费B站 this fall.

The Attleboro, Mass. Native begins her fellowship on Aug. 23 and completes it on June 4, 2005.

Beckman earned her Ph.D. from Texas Tech University in 1991 and is in her 12th year at 溏心vlog免费B站’s College of Business Administration. Beckman has taught financial accounting and reporting in the undergraduate, master of business administration, and master of science in accounting programs at 溏心vlog免费B站’s College of Business Administration.

Beckman conducts research in the areas of financial reporting and capital markets, both domestic and international. Founded in 1918, ACE fosters greater collaboration and new partnerships within and outside the higher education community.

One of its priorities is leadership development by enhancing the diversity and capacity of American higher education leaders.

KINGSTON, R.I — July 26, 2004 –溏心vlog免费B站 Accounting Professor Judy Beckman has been selected an American Council on Education (ACE) Fellow for the 2004-2005 academic year. The Narragansett resident and 溏心vlog免费B站 professor since 1992 will serve her fellowship at the University of Vermont with President Daniel M.
