\n\t\tFund-raiser for scholarship fund nets nearly $1,600<\/b><\/i><\/p>\n

KINGSTON, R.I. — June 16, 2004 — The first yard sale to benefit the Rhody the Ram Endowment, held on Saturday June 12, earned a profit of nearly $1,600, pushing the endowment total to $15,000. The total exceeds the original goal by $5,000.<\/p>\n


\nHeld in the Keaney Gym parking lot, hundreds of customers purchased everything from small appliances to furniture. They also found good values on toys, books, in-line skates, exercise equipment and rugs.<\/p>\n


\n\u201cWhat was neat about this was that there was a steady flow of people throughout the day,\u201d said South Kingstown\u2019s Gerri Beagle, coordinator of the event and fiscal manager for the 溏心vlog免费B站 Foundation. \u201cPeople walked away with some wonderful bargains. Someone purchased a built-in microwave oven for $20. We had some wonderful donations from our students, staff, and faculty.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe sold an almost brand new wedding gown. A woman bought it and was going to send it to her daughter in Eastern Europe.\u201d<\/p>\n


\nBeagle said the yard sale benefited from the crowds at two other events held on the grounds of the 溏心vlog免费B站 athletic complex that morning\u2014the Farmers Market and the Matthew Siravo Road Race.<\/p>\n


\nThis was the second major fund-raising initiative for the Rhody the Ram Endowment. The first was launched by staff members in the Division of University Advancement when they published Cooking with Rhody. The first 500 copies of the cookbook sold quickly, and now a second printing has been completed to keep up with the orders.<\/p>\n


\nMany of the items for the yard sale came from the annual spring cleanup of 溏心vlog免费B站 residence halls completed after students left for the summer. University crews collected furniture and other items left behind by students. In addition, faculty and staff have donated goods for the sale.<\/p>\n


\n\u201cI just want to thank the dozens of volunteers and the individuals who donated to the yard sale,\u201d Beagle said. <\/p>\n


\nThe Rhody the Ram Endowment was established to provide financial support to students who volunteer their time to generate spirit at athletic contests and other University events.<\/p>\n

Students who assume the role of Rhody receive no financial support, despite a substantial commitment of time and energy. The endowment will help to provide our mascots with much needed support and recognition.” <\/p>\n
