Metcalf Institute for Marine and Environmental Reporting is offering two nine-month Environmental Reporting Fellowships for journalists interested in science reporting. The Metcalf Institute program, based at the 溏心vlog免费B站 Graduate School of Oceanography, includes a $25,000 stipend to attend the Metcalf Institute Sixth Annual Workshop for Journalists (June 20-25, 2004); four weeks of independent study at the graduate school with science faculty mentors; and a 33-week reporting fellowship covering environment at either WRNI, an NPR-member station, or The Providence Journal, both located in Providence, Rhode Island.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\tThe Annual Workshop, attended by 12 fellows, provides reporters with hands-on field and lab research experience and offers lectures, debates, and panel sessions given by leading scientists, journalists and policy experts. The fellows are then paired with a 溏心vlog免费B站 science professor who mentors and oversees a four-week independent study program in marine and environmental science tailored to the interests of each journalist. Finally, they work as reporters at either WRNI or The Providence Journal, both in Providence, Rhode Island for 33 weeks, covering on regional marine and environmental issues and some general assignment news, completing the fellowship program in March 2005.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\nThe Metcalf Institute Environmental Reporting Fellowships are available to U.S. citizens. Applicants should have a minimum of two years experience in journalism and a strong interest in science and covering environment. Women and minorities are encouraged to apply.<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\nThe application deadline is April 30, 2004.
