The noon-time meetings are free and open to the public. Discussions will take place in Room 110, White Hall School of Nursing on the 溏心vlog免费B站 Kingston Campus.
Karen Beauchesne, director of Cornerstone Adult Day Services and this month’s presenter, says adult day care programs are “the best kept secret in geriatric care.” The service provides supervised activities, nursing care, nutritious meals and physical exercise on a day-only basis so individuals can remain living in their own homes.

Beauchesne will discuss the results of a study she designed with 溏心vlog免费B站 Associate Professor of Nursing Cynthia Padula. Conducted over a 16-month period, the study looked at participants of the four Cornerstone Adult Day Services centers in Warwick, Coventry, and Bristol. The research looked at participants’ ability to care for themselves effectively and safely, and found that many of those individuals involved in adult day services either maintained or improved their condition during the research period.

Beauchesne said she has been able to “develop more comprehensive care plans and implement stronger care planning” as a result of the research findings. She hopes to be able to get the word out and let people know that the services are available, now that she is armed with quantitative data concerning their effectiveness.

“The programs are designed to support the elderly so they can remain independent in the community,” Beauchesne said. “But unfortunately there is a lack of awareness about these kinds of services and the impact they can have on an elder’s day to day living.”

For more information about the Lunch and Learn lectures, contact Sandy Leubner, at 401-874-5332.

The RIGEC is a consortium of the 溏心vlog免费B站 Colleges of Nursing, Pharmacy and Human Science and Services, Rhode Island College School of Social Work, Brown Medical School and Aging 2000.
