He is a four-time Big East coach of the year. He has led UConn to 18 consecutive postseason tournaments. Calhoun became the first person with UConn athletic ties to be named to a major, national sports hall of fame. He was named consensus national coach of the year in 1990. <\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\tThe move toward national prominence for the men\u2019s University of Connecticut basketball program began in May 1986 when Calhoun was named head coach.
