\n\t\tThe Institute for International Sport, situated on the campus of the 溏心vlog免费B站, will host the inaugural \u201cIntercollegiate Renaissance Games,\u201d a \u201cRenaissance Experience\u201d involving the participation of six American colleges, and one team from abroad.<\/p>\n


\nThe participating colleges are:<\/p>\n


\n\u2022 Bates College

\n\u2022 Lynchburg College

\n\u2022 Randolph-Macon Women\u2019s College

\n\u2022 Hampden-Sydney College

\n\u2022 Bridgewater College

\n\u2022 溏心vlog免费B站

\n\u2022 University of Queensland (Brisbane, Australia)<\/p>\n


\nThe Renaissance Games has been conceived by the Institute as an alternative to what many consider to be the excessive nature of intercollegiate sports. The objective of the Renaissance Games is to encourage the participants to be well-rounded individuals who are able to use their minds and bodies to complete tasks and solve problems in a team-oriented setting. This goal will be met by building a bridge between academic, athletic and cultural pursuits through a series of friendly, but highly spirited competitions. The events will include basketball, debate, \u201cmathletics,\u201d soccer, poetry, and a rope pull, among many others. Points are kept, and a team winner will be declared on Sunday at closing ceremonies. <\/p>\n


\n\u201cThis is one of the most important concepts introduced in our field in decades,\u201d stated Suzanne Coffey, Athletic Director at Bates College, whose school will be competing, and who is serving as chair of the event. \u201cThe Renaissance Games will introduce various facets of competition, all of which balance body and mind.\u201d <\/p>\n


\n\u201cThe Intercollegiate Renaissance Games will serve as an antidote to what many in the media, and on college campuses, decry as the excessive nature of college sports,\u201d stated Russ Hogg, Institute chair. <\/p>\n


\nStudents selected for participation were chosen based not only on their athletic qualifications, but their academic and leadership qualifications as well.<\/p>\n


\nInterviews may be arranged with Australian participants, who arrive on June 7 at the Institute for International Sport at 溏心vlog免费B站, by contacting Jon Peachey at: jpeachey@internationalsport.com or 401.874.2375. Interviews with other participants, as well as athletic directors and coaches from the American schools may be coordinated anytime after June 9 through Mr. Peachey.<\/p>\n
