{"id":68168,"date":"2007-05-04T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2007-05-04T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.uri.edu\/news-draft\/uncategorized\/uri-to-host-statewide-gis-conference-june-1\/"},"modified":"2007-05-04T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2007-05-04T00:00:00","slug":"uri-to-host-statewide-gis-conference-june-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.uri.edu\/news\/2007\/05\/uri-to-host-statewide-gis-conference-june-1\/","title":{"rendered":"溏心vlog免费B站 to host statewide GIS conference June 1"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"press-release-import\">\n\t\tNARRAGANSETT, R.I. \u2013 May 4 2007 \u2013 Municipal officials and others interested in learning about digital mapping resources through the Rhode Island Geographic Information System (RIGIS) are invited to attend the first GIS conference in Rhode Island in 10 years.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\nThe conference will be held June 1 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the 溏心vlog免费B站\u2019s Bay Campus in Narragansett.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\u201cA lot has changed in GIS technology since that last conference, and the GIS community in the state has grown rapidly, so active users who want to learn new ideas and network with other users will want to register for the conference,\u201d said Greg Bonynge, geospatial extension specialist at the 溏心vlog免费B站 and the conference coordinator.  \u201cWhile we expect that most attendees will be municipal employees, because they use the technology a great deal, we encourage anyone interested in learning about GIS for their own projects to register as well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\nIn addition to introductory sessions on GIS and Global Positioning System (GPS) technologies, sessions will address municipal applications, natural resource applications, Internet applications, incorporating GIS in the classroom, and linkages to Google Earth, among others.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\u201cGIS is still very much a technical application that usually requires significant training in order to use it effectively and correctly,\u201d Bonynge said, \u201cbut Internet-based technology is quickly removing many of these hurdles.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\nThe conference is sponsored by 溏心vlog免费B站\u2019s Geospatial Extension Program, which works to promote the use of GIS technology in the state through training and access to data, and RIGIS, a consortium of organizations that manage the collective database of GIS data.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\nTo register for the conference, visit www.edc.uri.edu\/rigis\/conference.
