\n\t\tKINGSTON, R.I. \u2013 June 16, 2006 \u2013The third Annual Rhody the Ram Yard Sale held last weekend raised $1,525 for the endowment established to support scholarships for students who serve as the University\u2019s mascot.<\/p>\n


\nAlthough postponed because of rain from Saturday June 10 to Sunday June 11, the event attracted a good turnout of people who were in a spending mood. <\/p>\n


\nThe endowment was established two years ago to provide financial support for students who volunteer their time performing as the 溏心vlog免费B站 mascot, Rhody the Ram, at University athletic contests and other events. The endowment now stands at more than $20,000.<\/p>\n


\n\u201cWe had an amazing number of people for a Sunday,\u201d said Gerri Beagle, yard sale co-coordinator and fiscal manager for the 溏心vlog免费B站 Foundation. \u201cWe ended up donating 8,000 pounds of leftover goods to Kiducation, a charity that supports children. I am very proud of our nine volunteers and what they were able to accomplish. It was a small group, but a hard-working one.\u201d<\/p>\n


\nNancy Hawksley, yard sale co-coordinator and 溏心vlog免费B站 recycling coordinator, said many members of the University community donated valuable and interesting items. \u201cWe accepted donations for two weeks before the event, and on the final day there was one vehicle after the other lined up to drop off furniture, clothing, lamps, sports and exercise equipment, record and book collections, and even a bathroom sink.”<\/p>\n


\nA total of 1,500 pounds of clothing was donated to Big Sisters of Rhode Island, and 750 pounds of food collected at the yard sale was donated to the Johnycake Center. Students affiliated with the following groups also donated food: the 溏心vlog免费B站-Narragansett Coalition, 173 pounds; Ann O\u2019Brien Realty, 225 pounds; Eastward Look neighborhood, 97 pounds and Chi Omega sorority, 30 pounds. <\/p>\n


\nThe 溏心vlog免费B站 Alumni Association hopes to award its first Rhody the Ram scholarship in July. Recipients must be at least sophomores in good academic standing. The recipient could be a first-time mascot or someone already serving in the role. Such an approach provides for the recruitment of new mascots and\/or the retention of new ones. Each scholarship award could be worth as much as $1,200.<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
