{"id":66273,"date":"2008-02-25T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2008-02-25T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.uri.edu\/news-draft\/uncategorized\/uris-forensic-science-seminar-feb-29\/"},"modified":"2008-02-25T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2008-02-25T00:00:00","slug":"uris-forensic-science-seminar-feb-29","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.uri.edu\/news\/2008\/02\/uris-forensic-science-seminar-feb-29\/","title":{"rendered":"溏心vlog免费B站\u2019s Forensic Science Seminar Feb. 29"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"press-release-import\">\n\t\tWoonsocket detective to discuss serial killer case<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\nat <\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\nKINGSTON, R.I. \u2013 February 25, 2008 &#8212; Gerard Durand, a forensic detective with the Woonsocket Police Department, will speak Friday, Feb. 29, at the 溏心vlog免费B站 about the department\u2019s investigation and apprehension of a serial killer.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\nFree and open to the public, the talk titled \u201cSerial Murder Scene\u2014It CAN Happen to You,\u201d will run from 3:30 to 5 p.m. in Room 124 of Pastore Hall, 51 Lower College Road. <\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\nDurand will address what happens when the crime scene changes from an assault investigation to a serial murder involving three dismembered victims.  The lecture will chronicle how a relatively small police department handled the case, from the way the scenes were processed, to the recovery of some remains from the landfill, as well as the cooperation between different agencies.  <br \/>&#13;<br \/>\nExtensive crime scene photographs as well as the killer&#8217;s videotaped confession will be shown.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\nThe talk is based on the arrest and conviction of Jeffrey S. Mailhot of Woonsocket in 2006. He was sentenced to the equivalent of two life sentences for three murders, as well as 10 years for two assaults. <\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\nDurand is a 19-year veteran of the Woonsocket Police Department, and has been with its  forensic unit for the past 10 years.
