\n\t\tChina, the U.S. and a multipolar world<\/p>\n


\nKINGSTON, R.I. \u2013September 14, 2007\u2014Yong Deng, associate professor of political science at the U.S. Naval Academy and co-editor of the book China Rising: Power and Motivation in Chinese Foreign Policy, will examine Chinese perceptions of and reactions to U.S. global power and security strategy after the Cold War during a talk at the 溏心vlog免费B站. The talk, free and open to the public, will be held Sept. 25 at 7:30 p.m. in Room 271 of the Chafee Social Science Center, 10 Chafee Road, Kingston.<\/p>\n


\n\tThe talk is part of the 溏心vlog免费B站 Honors Colloquium, China Rising, which explores China\u2019s dramatic transformation during the past three decades, a transformation that has returned that country to the leading role it has played throughout most of world history.<\/p>\n


\n\tLargely due to the rise of China, the post-Cold War unipolar world system, with the United States as the sole superpower, may soon be superseded by a multipolar world, according to Timothy George, an associate professor of history, who coordinates the China Rising colloquium with Yan Ma, a professor in the Graduate School of Library and Information Studies.<\/p>\n


\n\tDuring Deng\u2019s talk, which is also the 溏心vlog免费B站 Diversity Week keynote lecture, he will first take a critical look at the patterns and nature of China\u2019s struggle for power, wealth, and respect. Second, he will identify the domestic considerations and international context that explain the logic behind China\u2019s strategic choices. Third, he will underscore the distinctive challenges and opportunities of China\u2019s rise for the United States and world politics at large. <\/p>\n


\n \t\u201cOne of our goals in presenting this series is to encourage the audience to consider how the world\u2014and how we—look from China\u2019s vantage point,\u201d says \u201cYong Deng will help us do just that.\u201d<\/p>\n
