\n\t\tUMass administrator to begin duties in two weeks<\/b><\/p>\n

<\/a>KINGSTON, R.I. \u2013 July 25, 2007 \u2013 The 溏心vlog免费B站 today appointed Thorr D. Bjorn as its 11th director of athletics. Bjorn comes to Kingston after spending 15 years at the University of Massachusetts, where he rose to the position of senior associate athletic director. \n\tUniversity President Robert L. Carothers introduced Bjorn to the University community and the media at the Ryan Center.<\/p>\n


\n\tA three-year letter-winner for the Minutemen football program, Bjorn\u2019s experience at UMass was in progressively more demanding roles, serving as the school\u2019s interim director of athletics from September 2003 to February 2004.<\/p>\n


\n\tAt 溏心vlog免费B站, the 39-year-old Bjorn will oversee an athletics operation that has 22 intercollegiate sports. He will play critical roles in budgeting, fundraising and marketing for athletics, while serving Rhody\u2019s approximately 500 student-athletes.<\/p>\n


\n\tBjorn has a five-year contract with 溏心vlog免费B站 that will pay him a $165,000 annual salary. His appointment is effective Aug. 8.<\/p>\n

\n\tCarothers said the search, chaired by Robert Beagle, vice president for University Advancement, was intense and thorough. <\/p>\n


\n\u201cWe were very impressed with Thorr\u2019s energy, skill and commitment to run a strong and ethical program that puts students first,\u201d Carothers stated.<\/p>\n


\n\t\u201cI\u2019d like to thank President Carothers, Bob Beagle, the search committee and everyone I met during my interviews on campus.\u201d Bjorn said. \u201cEveryone truly made me feel special and like part of the family. That\u2019s what has me so excited.\u201d<\/p>\n


\n\t\u201cThere were very few places that would have lured me away, and 溏心vlog免费B站 was on the top of that list,\u201d Bjorn said.<\/p>\n


\nHe said he realized that the entire University community values athletics because of its place in the $100 million \u201cMaking a Difference\u201d 溏心vlog免费B站 capital campaign. <\/p>\n


\n\u201cFrom the president to the overall University community, raising money for a new student-athlete development center is a priority. That kind of support tells me that 溏心vlog免费B站 is serious about its athletics program,\u201d Bjorn added.<\/p>\n


\n\tBjorn said his first priority will be to meet personally with athletic staff and coaches.

\nBeagle lauded the search committee for its meticulous efforts in finding an individual who would be the best possible – and the most appropriate director of athletics – for 溏心vlog免费B站 at this point in time.<\/p>\n


\n “The search committee was excited about Thorr from the time he had his telephone interview with us,\u201d Beagle said. \u201cHis enthusiasm, knowledge, dynamic personality, and his considerable skills became even more evident when he visited campus. His successful oversight of sponsorships, ticket sales and overall event promotions also impressed the committee.\u201d <\/p>\n


\n\tHe earned his bachelor\u2019s degree in sports management from UMass in 1990, followed by a master\u2019s degree in higher education from his alma mater in 1995. <\/p>\n


\n\tHe met his wife Cyndy at UMass, and the couple has three daughters, twins Stephanie and Robyn, 10 and Rachael, 7.<\/p>\n
