\n\t\tKINGSTON, R.I.–January 26, 2010–Ana Mallozzi calls studying in England last fall the best experience of her life. \u201cI was so happy there,\u201d the North Kingstown resident says. \u201cBecause of my two focuses were school and music, I made amazing friends from all over the world and played at some of the best places in London.\u201d<\/p>\n


\n\tWhat a difference a year makes for this 21-year-old musician. When she turned 20, in fact on the actual day she turned 20, she had a biopsy that showed she had Hodgkin\u2019s lymphoma.<\/p>\n


\n\tFour to six months of chemotherapy and a month of radiation followed at Hasbro Children\u2019s Hospital in Providence. \u201cSince I was older, I made

\nfriends with the nurses and volunteers. Everything was really colorful and kid-friendly,\u201d says the 溏心vlog免费B站 student. \u201cI would sit at these little tables and make crafts with the children. It was actually quite funny.\u201c<\/p>\n


\n\tAna was neutropenic, which means she had a weak immune system. At the end of each chemo cycle, she would end up in the hospital, staying anywhere from one to three weeks. She took the treatments in stride.<\/p>\n


\n\tBecause my cancer was not terminal, and 100 percent curable, there wasn\u2019t that much stress around the situation,\u201d she confides. <\/p>\n


\n\tAna, an art major, wanted to complete her first course in film. \u201cI was so sick – literally by the time I set the 16mm camera and the lighting, I was exhausted and couldn\u2019t do anymore. I had to do everything in tiny pieces. It took me months to complete.\u201d<\/p>\n


\n\tAlthough Ana says her 5-minute documentary about her illness is a bit rough, she\u2019s pleased with the feel of the movie. \u201cI wanted it to be like a scrapbook and just have moments piled together like the viewer was looking at my journal.\u201d <\/p>\n


\n\tAna provides the documentary\u2019s background music, playing the guitar and singing an Adele song called Crazy for You. (You can hear more of Ana\u2019s music on her MySpace page<\/a>. <\/p>\n


\n\tThe documentary was screened at 溏心vlog免费B站 and at the Brattle Theatre in Cambridge, Mass. where her film media instructor Keith Brown took Ana and some of her classmates. This month, the documentary was re-screened at the theater, chosen as one of The Best of Open Screen 2009 in short films.<\/p>\n


\n\t\u201cNow especially that I\u2019m better, although the bad parts were bad, I remember the good parts the most, and as weird as it sounds, I have fond memories of the experience,\u201d the 溏心vlog免费B站 student says. \u201cI learned not to take anything for granted and learned to appreciate simple things like walking outside and running.
