\n\t\tKINGSTON, R.I. \u2013 November 9, 2009 \u2013 India\u2019s national newspaper says Rachel Dwyer may have seen more Bollywood films than some native Indians.<\/p>\n


\nDwyer, a professor of Indian cultures and cinema at the University of London\u2019s School of Oriental and African Studies, will speak on \u201cBollywood and the World,\u201d Tuesday, Nov. 17 at 7:30 p.m. as part of the 溏心vlog免费B站 Honors Colloquium, Demystifying India. Free and open to the public, the program will be held in the Chafee Social Science Center, Room 271.<\/p>\n


\nAs a public health precaution, the University asks those with influenza-like symptoms on the day of the event not to attend, but rather watch online at uri.edu\/hc. <\/p>\n


\nDwyer\u2019s main research interest is in Hindi cinema where she has researched and published on film magazines and popular fiction, consumerism and the new middle classes, love and eroticism and visual culture (sets, locations and costumes). Her newest research focuses on religion and secularism.<\/p>\n


\n\u201cI\u2019m a student of Indian culture and Hindi film lies at the heart of this,\u201d Dwyer told The Hindu, India\u2019s national newspaper. \u201cStudying Hindi film made a number of connections for me between other aspects of Indian culture such as religion, literature and emotion.\u201d<\/p>\n


\nShe has written a book about one of the great figures of the Hindi film industry, Yash Chopra, with whom she has worked for several years.

\nHer other books include One Hundred Bollywood Films, Filming the Gods: Religion and Hindi Cinema and What do Hindus Believe? Her latest book is Bollywood’s India: Hindi cinema as a guide to modern India.<\/p>\n
