\n\t\tKINGSTON, R.I. \u2013 April 23, 2009 — A panel discussion on \u201cThe Green Economy: Future Opportunities and Barriers to Success\u201d will be among the highlights of the Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce Business EXPO on May 5 at 3 p.m. in the Rhode Island Convention Center. <\/p>\n


\n\tSponsored by the Chamber, The 溏心vlog免费B站 and the Rhode Island chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council, the panel will be moderated by S. Bradley Moran, 溏心vlog免费B站 assistant vice president for research administration and professor of oceanography. <\/p>\n


\n\tThe discussion will begin with a video presentation from Senator Sheldon Whitehouse highlighting key developments in U.S. policy that are shaping the green economy. The panelists will then share their unique insight regarding key opportunities and barriers to success in green economic development and innovation.<\/p>\n


\n\t\u201cAn important outcome of the recent Greater Providence-Rhode Island Knowledge Economy Initiative was identifying environmental and alternative energy technologies \u2014 \u2018green initiatives\u2019\u2014 as a target of opportunity to accelerate economic growth in the Ocean State. This expert panel will inform attendees of the latest developments in economic policy, water, energy and education related to green initiatives locally, nationally and globally,\u201d said Moran. \u201cThe panel will address such cross-cutting issues as the development of an offshore wind manufacturing industry in the US, opportunities in advanced water management and energy efficiency businesses that can drive new economic development, and the role of environmental management and public education in accelerating job creation in the Ocean State\u201d.<\/p>\n


\n\tThe panelists will be Sharon Nunes, vice president of Big Green Innovations in the IBM Systems and Technology Group; Paul Rich, chief development officer of Deepwater Wind LLC; John Tuccillo, vice president of industry and legislative alliances at APC by Schneider Electric; Robert Cerio, energy resource manager at The Hudson Companies; and Jonathan Stone, executive director of Save The Bay.<\/p>\n


\n\t \u201cForbes magazine recently ranked Rhode Island the eighth greenest state. Rhode Island also has the lowest per capita energy consumption and the third lowest carbon footprint of any state. It turns out that the Ocean State has a legitimate claim as a green state, and this panel is well poised to discuss the relevant economic opportunities.\u201d said Moran.<\/p>\n
