{"id":64278,"date":"2008-12-22T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2008-12-22T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.uri.edu\/news-draft\/uncategorized\/uri-to-offer-professional-practice-degree-in-ocean-engineering\/"},"modified":"2008-12-22T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2008-12-22T00:00:00","slug":"uri-to-offer-professional-practice-degree-in-ocean-engineering","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.uri.edu\/news\/2008\/12\/uri-to-offer-professional-practice-degree-in-ocean-engineering\/","title":{"rendered":"溏心vlog免费B站 to offer professional practice degree in ocean engineering"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"press-release-import\">\n\t\tKINGSTON, R.I. \u2013 December 22, 2008 \u2013 In response to recommendations in a report issued by the National Academy of Engineering, the 溏心vlog免费B站\u2019s College of Engineering will begin offering a five-year, professional practice degree program in ocean engineering beginning in 2009.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\t\u201cIt is clear from this report that the professional engineering societies are strongly in favor of a professional engineering degree to allow graduates to fully enter into the real practice of engineering upon graduation,\u201d said Malcolm Spaulding, 溏心vlog免费B站 professor of ocean engineering and the coordinator of the program.  \u201cInternationally, the five-year program is the standard for professional practice in the field.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\tThe National Academy report, Adapting Engineering Education to the New Century, recommends that a bachelor\u2019s degree in an engineering discipline be considered a pre-engineering or engineer-in-training degree, and master\u2019s degree programs should be accredited separately as professional degrees.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\tAccording to Spaulding, few engineering programs at universities in the United States have transitioned from 4-year degree programs to 5-year professional degree programs yet.
