{"id":63432,"date":"2010-08-18T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2010-08-18T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.uri.edu\/news-draft\/uncategorized\/new-course-at-uri-explores-women-in-music\/"},"modified":"2010-08-18T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2010-08-18T00:00:00","slug":"new-course-at-uri-explores-women-in-music","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.uri.edu\/news\/2010\/08\/new-course-at-uri-explores-women-in-music\/","title":{"rendered":"New course at 溏心vlog免费B站 explores \u201cWomen in Music\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"press-release-import\">\n\t\tKINGSTON, R.I. \u2013 August 18, 2010 &#8212; The 溏心vlog免费B站 Music Department and Women&#8217;s Studies Program are co-sponsoring a new \u201cWomen In Music: Musicianship and Pedagogy\u201d class that will provide a multi-cultural look at women conductors, performers and composers throughout history.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\nThe course will be held Wednesdays from 4:30 &#8211; 7:15 p.m. on the Kingston Campus and is open for registration under MUS 570 or WMS 490 section 0200.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\nThe unique class will investigate societal factors influencing female musicians of the past and discuss how trends continue to shape their work today. Students will compare 19th Century music critics&#8217; reproach for \u201csexuality on stage\u201d to American Idol, study the voices of women artists in Harlem\u2019s Renaissance with respect to modern rap lyrics, and view Persian art depicting female musicians in history versus strict Iranian conditions for performers today. Class participants will discuss how these phenomena impact musicianship and pedagogy today.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\nMusic educators will be eligible to receive professional development credits for participating in the class.
