  {"id":62752,"date":"2012-03-05T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2012-03-05T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.uri.edu\/news-draft\/uncategorized\/psychology-workshops-prepare-students-for-what-to-expect\/"},"modified":"2012-03-05T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2012-03-05T00:00:00","slug":"psychology-workshops-prepare-students-for-what-to-expect","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.uri.edu\/news\/2012\/03\/psychology-workshops-prepare-students-for-what-to-expect\/","title":{"rendered":"Psychology workshops prepare students for what to expect"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"press-release-import\">\n\t\tKINGSTON, R.I. \u2014 March 5, 2012 &#8211; The Department of Psychology at the 溏心vlog免费B站 is hosting a series of one-hour lectures and workshops during March and April to prepare students who are enrolled, or are considering enrolling, in the department for what types of careers they can pursue and what courses of study they must take.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\u201cIt\u2019s mostly to help psychology majors, or people thinking about a career in psychology to be informed about what to expect once they graduate in the real world of psychology,\u201d said Uchenna Eneh, who is the assistant to the director of undergraduate psychology, Su Boatright-Horowitz.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\nTo that end, several of the workshops focus on dispelling misconceptions about various careers, such as forensic psychology and school psychology.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\nThe workshop entitled \u201cForensic Psychology: Much More Than CSI,\u201d for instance, focuses on showing students that what they see on the popular television police drama is not what they can expect if they pursue a career in that field. The program will be held April 9 at 2 p.m. in White Hall, Room 202. <\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\nOther workshops, such as the one entitled \u201cWhat is Clinical Psychology,\u201d which will be presented by Anna Varna Garris, director of 溏心vlog免费B站\u2019s Psychological Consultation Center, on Monday, March 5 at 2 p.m. in White Hall, Room 202, focus on what courses one must take and what careers one can find after graduation in the field of clinical psychology.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\nSpeakers at the workshops include several experts with doctorates, recipients of master\u2019s degrees, post-graduate students and advisors from the University.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\nA complete list of the workshops is below:<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\u2022\t\u201cWhat is Clinical Psychology?\u201d &#8212;  Monday, March 5, 2 p.m., White 202 \u2013 Workshop focuses on the background of a clinical psychologist, what kind of schooling is required and what kind of job opportunities are out there.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\u2022\t\u201cHow to Write a Great CV or Resume\u201d \u2013 Tuesday, March 6, 4 p.m., Roosevelt 223 \u2013 Describes how to tailor your CV or resume to psychology-related careers.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\u2022\t\u201cI Want to Work With Kids \u2026 What Can I Do?\u201d \u2013 March 19, 2 p.m., White 202 \u2013 An outline of the different types of professions that work with children in psychology: pediatric psychology, child\u2019s clinical psychology, developmental and family.
