<\/a>KINGSTON, R.I. \u2013 April 18, 2011 \u2013 The latest headlines about the Rhode Island pension fund reveal the funding deficit has jumped 27 percent, making the state\u2019s pension liabilities among the worst in the country. <\/p>\n

To help understand how this crisis affects every Rhode Islander, the äçÐÄvlogÃâ·ÑBÕ¾\u2019s College of Business Administration is bringing together a panel of well-known experts Monday, April 25, on the Kingston campus for the annual Vangermeersch Endowed Lecture. Free and open to the public, the program will be held in the Chafee Social Science Center, Room 271, 10 Chafee Road, at 7 p.m.

\n\u201cWe\u2019ve been aware for a long time that state and municipal pensions had serious funding issues, and the topic has received plenty of publicity, but it\u2019s difficult for people to wrap their arms around,\u201d said College of Business Administration Dean Mark Higgins. \u201cWe are not attempting to solve the crisis but we will shine a bright light on a controversial issue. Our goal is to put it in an understandable context.\u201d <\/p>\n


\nThe moderator will be Gary Sasse, director of Bryant University\u2019s Institute for Public Leadership and former executive director of the Rhode Island Public Expenditure Council.<\/p>\n
