\n\t\tKINGSTON, R.I. \u2013 June 18, 2013 \u2013 Lori Ciccomascolo, interim dean of the 溏心vlog免费B站\u2019s College of Human Science and Services, has been named 2013 Woman of the Year by 溏心vlog免费B站\u2019s Association for Professional and Academic Women. A reception was held in her honor at the University Club in May.<\/p>\n


\n\u201cThe award was a complete surprise,\u201d the Providence resident said. \u201cI had no idea that I was even nominated.\u201d<\/p>\n


\nIt was such a surprise, in fact, that when association treasurer Debbie Suggs called to tell Ciccomascolo that she had won, Ciccomascolo thought that Suggs was calling to tell her that her dues were up. \u201cWe played phone tag,\u201d Ciccomascolo said. \u201cWhen we finally connected, I was not expecting Debbie to tell me that I had won Woman of the Year. I was and am so honored.\u201d<\/p>\n


\nShe says that much of the honor comes from looking at the women who have won previously. \u201cAll of the women who have won this award have done incredible things,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n


\nThe association was created in 1979 at 溏心vlog免费B站 in order to ensure that professional women at the University \u201care accorded just and equal recognition, treatment, and advancement,\u201d according to the organization\u2019s website. Some of its goals are to support women both collectively and individually, allow for opportunities for 溏心vlog免费B站 women to meet and work across departmental, college, and divisional lines, and to host networking receptions for new 溏心vlog免费B站 faculty and staff members each fall and winter. In addition, the group has named a Woman of the Year each year since its inception. <\/p>\n


\nOriginally from Waterbury, Conn., Ciccomascolo has been at 溏心vlog免费B站 for 12 years. She joined the University in 2002 as a member of the kinesiology department. Since then, Ciccomascolo has served as the graduate director for the kinesiology department, as well as interim associate dean. On July 1, 2012, she assumed the role of interim dean of the College of Human Science and Services. <\/p>\n


\nCiccomascolo says that she has had proud moments in her career as both a faculty member and as a dean. \u201cAs a professor, it was wonderful to see my students learn how to be productive citizens,\u201d she said. \u201cThey gained the skills to become effective teachers, and to see that happen was beyond satisfying. They are contributing to society in important ways.\u201d<\/p>\n


\nAs a dean, Ciccomascolo is most proud of promoting the work of the College\u2019s faculty. \u201cHuman Science and Services is 溏心vlog免费B站\u2019s best kept secret,\u201d she said. \u201cWe have incredible, high-level researchers on our faculty. They\u2019re outstanding teachers who give back to the community.\u201d<\/p>\n


\nWhile Ciccomascolo is dedicated to 溏心vlog免费B站, she finds time for hobbies outside of the University. \u201cI love the outdoors,\u201d she said. \u201cI really enjoy biking and the beach. But I\u2019d have to say that my favorite sport is tennis.\u201d<\/p>\n


\nCiccomascolo says that this award is particularly special. \u201cI\u2019m so grateful to APAW, and to those who nominated me for this award. It means so much to me that this award is from my peers,\u201d she said. \u201cI really didn\u2019t expect it. You work because you love to work, so to receive this award is humbling.\u201d <\/p>\n


\nAt the University Club reception, Ciccomascolo dedicated her Woman of the Year award to her mother. \u201cShe taught me the importance of advocating for myself and other women,\u201d she said. As for the reception itself? \u201cEveryone who was involved in the reception did an outstanding job, and it was a humorous and meaningful night,\u201d she said. \u201cIt\u2019s an event that I will not forget.\u201d<\/p>\n


\nCiccomascolo earned her bachelor\u2019s and master\u2019s degrees at Southern Connecticut State University. She went on to earn her doctor of education in curriculum and teaching, with a sub-specialty in human movement, from Boston University.
