\n\t\tKINGSTON, R.I. \u2013 Nov. 17, 2014 \u2013 The final Honors Colloquium lecture will welcome internationally renowned expert on cyber security, Bruce Schneier on Tuesday, Dec. 2, 7:30 p.m. The free, public lecture talk is titled, \u201cSurveillance and Power.\u201d The lecture will be held in Edwards Hall Auditorium, 64 Upper College Road.<\/p>\n

\nDubbed a \u201csecurity guru\u201d by The Economist, Schneier has published 12 books on the subjects of computer security and cryptography. His monthly newsletter Crypto-Gram, and his blog, Schneier on Security, are read by more than 250,000 people. Schneier’s frequent postings range from short quips to articles detailing serious security issues. <\/p>\n


\nSchneier is a fellow at the Berkman Center for Internet and Society at Harvard Law School, a program fellow at the New America Foundation’s Open Technology Institute, a board member of the Electronic Frontier Foundation, an advisory board member of the Electronic Privacy Information Center, and the chief technology officer at Co3 Systems, Inc.<\/p>\n


\nThe lecture will explore the benefits, and harms of a surveillance-driven society. Schneier will discuss why society need to design policies that limit corporate and government intrusions into our privacy, while at the same time reimagining our society in ways that can reap the benefits of our collective surveillance data.<\/p>\n
