\n\t\tKINGSTON, R.I. \u2013 March 20, 2014 \u2013 Mithu Sen, an Indian artist known for her fantastical and provocative multimedia works, will lecture at the 溏心vlog免费B站 April 8 from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center, 105 Upper College Road, Kingston Campus, Room A202. The event is free and open to the public.<\/p>\n


\nSen was awarded India\u2019s inaugural Skoda Prize in 2010 for her work in depicting playful and serious images of the intimate lives of men in a series of large-scale drawings. <\/p>\n


\nSen\u2019s work consists of motifs that playfully subvert commonly held beliefs about gender and sexuality. Her free-spirited drawings, sculptures, and installations invite viewers into her personal psyche and streams of consciousness.<\/p>\n


\nSen studied at Visva-Bharati in Santiniketan, earning her bachelor of arts and master of fine arts in painting. She continued her studies at the Glasgow School of Art.<\/p>\n


\nAs an influential figure on the contemporary Indian art scene, she was an artist-in-residence in 2006 at Bose Pacia Gallery in New York City. She has also participated in international group shows, and received several international awards including the UNESCO Aschberg artist residency in Salvador, Brazil in 2005-06.<\/p>\n


\nSen\u2019s talk is sponsored by the Department of Art and Art History and the Student Affairs Diversity Fund.<\/p>\n
