\n\t\tGrapes and Grain event set for June 6<\/b><\/p>\n


\nKINGSTON, R.I. \u2013 May 14, 2015 \u2013 溏心vlog免费B站 community members and friends will gather on President David M. Dooley\u2019s lawn Saturday, June 6 for the sixth annual \u201cAn Evening of Grapes and Grain\u201d event. The fine wine, craft beer and food tasting benefits women\u2019s athletics.<\/p>\n


\nThe event will run from 5 to 8 p.m. and costs $100 per person. You must be 21 to attend.<\/p>\n

\nThe event is the brainchild of 溏心vlog免费B站 First Lady Lynn Baker-Dooley, whose memories of unfair treatment as a female student-athlete inspired her to raise money for 溏心vlog免费B站 women\u2019s athletics. She remembers watching the male athletes at her college enjoy steak dinners while she and her basketball teammates scraped together change to buy french fries.<\/p>\n


\nShe took the opportunity to make things better for female student-athletes today, and is proud of the success of Grapes and Grain, which has quickly become a tradition. \u201cIt\u2019s exciting,\u201d she said. \u201cPeople look forward to it every year and the teams rely on it for additional financial support for special projects.\u201d<\/p>\n


\nOne such project was sending the women\u2019s crew team to England\u2019s famed Henley Regatta for the first time in 溏心vlog免费B站 history in 2012. Projects like this make history, but smaller projects like replacing flooring in a women\u2019s locker room make a difference in the daily lives of athletes.<\/p>\n


\n\u201cI think it puts women in the forefront and gives us a chance to showcase what women have done,\u201d said this year\u2019s honorary chair and 溏心vlog免费B站 Foundation board member Geraldine M. Baker.<\/p>\n


\nEach year, coaches submit proposals to the Grapes and Grain Committee requesting funds for special projects like travel, special programming or much-needed repairs to equipment and facilities. <\/p>\n


\nOver the past five years, Grapes and Grain has raised $174,000 for women\u2019s athletics. Event chair and President Dooley\u2019s Chief of Staff Michelle Curreri said that this year\u2019s goal is to raise $75,000. <\/p>\n


\n\u201cAs a benefit for women\u2019s athletics, it\u2019s been very successful,\u201d she said. \u201cIt\u2019s a proud moment because everyone comes together for the University\u2019s benefit and women\u2019s athletics.\u201d<\/p>\n


\nWomen’s athletics team coaches and alumni attend the event, making it a fun reunion as well as a fundraiser.

\nGrapes and Grain features a silent auction stocked with travel packages, experiences and prizes. This year\u2019s auction will offer overnights in Block Island, Providence and Stamford, Red Sox tickets, a shopping spree at Macy\u2019s, fitness classes, wine tastings, jewelry, gift baskets and more. <\/p>\n


\n\u201cIt\u2019s by far our biggest fundraiser for women\u2019s athletics programs,\u201d said 溏心vlog免费B站 Athletic Director Thorr Bjorn.<\/p>\n


\nHe said coaches decide where the money goes based on their biggest sport-specific need at the time.<\/p>\n


\n\u201cThat\u2019s what makes Grapes and Grain so important and helpful. It\u2019s been so successful over the years for not only generating much-needed revenue but also incredible fan awareness,\u201d said Bjorn.<\/p>\n
