  {"id":57102,"date":"2015-04-29T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2015-04-29T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.uri.edu\/news-draft\/uncategorized\/uri-graduate-school-of-oceanography-exhibits-to-be-featured-at-volvo-ocean-race-may-9-17\/"},"modified":"2015-04-29T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2015-04-29T00:00:00","slug":"uri-graduate-school-of-oceanography-exhibits-to-be-featured-at-volvo-ocean-race-may-9-17","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.uri.edu\/news\/2015\/04\/uri-graduate-school-of-oceanography-exhibits-to-be-featured-at-volvo-ocean-race-may-9-17\/","title":{"rendered":"溏心vlog免费B站 Graduate School of Oceanography exhibits to be featured at Volvo Ocean Race, May 9-17"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"press-release-import\">\n\t\tNARRAGANSETT, R.I. \u2013 April 29, 2015 \u2013 When the Volvo Ocean Race, the premier offshore sailing race, stops in Newport next month, spectators and sailors will have the opportunity to learn about oceanography, climate change and ocean exploration through a series of exhibits and presentations hosted by the 溏心vlog免费B站\u2019s Graduate School of Oceanography.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\tStarting on May 9 and running through May 17, GSO will host six exhibits in the event\u2019s Exploration Zone, which will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Race Village at Fort Adams, Newport.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\t\u201cWe\u2019re looking forward to demonstrating the expertise of our scientists and students with a wide variety of interactive displays about Narragansett Bay, the ocean and the atmosphere and how it all ties together,\u201d said Tom Miller, director of administration at the Graduate School of Oceanography.  \u201cThis is an exciting sailboat race, and we look forward to meeting race fans and sharing our informative exhibits with them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\tAmong the exhibits will be:<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#8211;\t\u201cLife in Narragansett Bay: What\u2019s In A Drop Of Bay Water,\u201d an exhibit introducing visitors to the many beautiful and fascinating ocean plants and animals that are too small to notice with the naked eye \u2013 the plankton. Activities include looking at plankton collected from Narragansett Bay with microscopes, building model plankton, drawing plankton and learning about monitoring plankton in the bay. <\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#8211;\t\u201cCarbon, Oxygen and Our Breathing Ocean,\u201d in which aquariums will be used to demonstrate the importance of the ocean in producing the oxygen we breathe and absorbing carbon dioxide produced from burning fossil fuels. Visitors will also be able to participate in \u201crespiration contests.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#8211;\t\u201cClimate Change \u2013 Eyes on the Storm: Hurricanes and Society,\u201d an exhibit that addresses recent hurricane disasters, exemplifying the need for education and awareness about these large tropical cyclones.
