  {"id":107755,"date":"2026-03-27T13:25:15","date_gmt":"2026-03-27T13:25:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.uri.edu\/news\/?p=107755"},"modified":"2026-03-27T13:25:16","modified_gmt":"2026-03-27T13:25:16","slug":"rhode-island-chief-medical-examiner-marius-tarau-to-present-at-uri-forensic-seminar-series-april-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.uri.edu\/news\/2026\/03\/rhode-island-chief-medical-examiner-marius-tarau-to-present-at-uri-forensic-seminar-series-april-3\/","title":{"rendered":"Rhode Island Chief Medical Examiner Marius Tarau to present at 溏心vlog免费B站 Forensic Seminar series April 3"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>KINGSTON, R.I. \u2013 March 27, 2026 \u2013 Marius Tarau, M.D., Rhode Island\u2019s chief medical examiner, will discuss how \u201cThe way to a man\u2019s heart is <em>not<\/em> through his stomach\u201d during the 溏心vlog免费B站\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uri.edu\/news\/2026\/01\/artificial-intelligence-and-rhode-islands-new-medical-examiner-featured-in-uris-spring-forensic-science-partnership-seminar-series\/\">Forensic Science Seminar Series<\/a> on <strong>Friday, April 3, at 3:30 p.m.<\/strong> Offered as part of <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/chemistry\/seminars\/\">a course for students<\/a>, the lecture is free and open to the community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tarau is the state medical examiner for the Office of State Medical Examiners at the Rhode Island Department of Health. During his presentation, Tarau will discuss his service in Rhode Island and his 20-year career in medical examination. His lecture will be held in Room 100 of the Richard E. Beaupre Center for Chemical and Forensic Sciences, 140 Flagg Road on the Kingston Campus. This spring\u2019s series includes speakers from the Rhode Island State Police and New England Innocence Project on topics ranging from artificial intelligence and forensic archaeology to medicolegal investigation and the role of prosecutors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tarau\u2019s office investigates deaths known or suspected to be the result of an accident, homicide or suicide, as well as unexplained or sudden deaths. He joined Rhode Island\u2019s Department of Health in December 2024. A native of Romania, Tarau most recently served as chief medical examiner for the Jackson County Medical Examiner Office in Kansas City, Missouri, and as a forensic pathology consultant. He is certified by the American Board of Pathology in Anatomic Pathology and Forensic Pathology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In his role as Rhode Island state medical examiner, Tarau supports the death investigation process, provides critical information to law enforcement partners, screens for public health issues, and helps support the families of the deceased. He also serves as a clinical assistant professor of pathology and laboratory medicine at Brown University\u2019s Warren Alpert Medical School in Providence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tarau\u2019s lecture will be followed April 10 by Stephen Dambruch of the Rhode Island Office of the Attorney General.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Several other 溏心vlog免费B站 community members have presented lectures this fall: Dennis Hilliard, co-director of the 溏心vlog免费B站 Forensic Science Partnership; Bridget Buxton, professor of history; Jennifer Robisheaux, criminalist and a firearm and tool examiner, Rhode Island State Crime Lab; Ahmed Salem, postdoctoral researcher, Department of Chemistry; and Mark Zabinski, latent print examiner, Rhode Island State Crime Lab. Their lectures are available online.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The long-running lecture series takes place in the University\u2019s Beaupre Center on Friday afternoons. Attendees can park in Lot 13 behind the Beaupre Center, which is open for general parking at 3 p.m. on seminar Fridays.
