WHAT:<\/strong> Rhode Island\u2019s economic performance for November was again disappointing, but it is possible that the state is beginning to make its way out of the darkness, according to 溏心vlog免费B站 economist Leonard Lardaro. November\u2019s Current Conditions Index value, at 42, is an improvement from the marks set in May and October. October\u2019s CCI was readjusted from 33 to 42 based on new information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is also the seventh time in 11 months that the CCI was less than 50, and Lardaro is still firm that Rhode Island\u2019s economic recession is ongoing. However, even though the local economy hasn\u2019t broken through the recent \u201cceiling\u201d of the neutral 50 CCI value, there are signs of improvement based on monthly data. If national activity strengthens this year as predicted, it could be enough to move Rhode Island out of the recession, Lardaro says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For November, just five of the 12 economic indicators improved relative to a year ago. Retail Sales, a critical economic indicator that has been a strength through almost the entire post-pandemic period, improved by 1.7%, resuming its upward trend since March. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another good sign is that New Claims, which is related to layoffs, fell by 9.4%, its first improvement since July. Lardaro hopes layoffs will continue to slow, which would be a \u201cwelcome change.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Total Manufacturing Hours grew at 4.2%, remaining healthy. Manufacturing Wage saw a strong increase of 1.8%. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Single-Use Permits, related to new-home construction, dropped by an estimated 3.1% in November, Lardaro says. Benefits Exhaustion, which indicates long-term unemployment, rose in November by 6%, sustaining an upward trend that is concerning. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Employment Service Jobs, a leading labor market indicator, fell by 1.1% after improving the previous month. US Consumer Sentiment again declined by a double-digit rate, down by 28.9% in November\u2014continuing its consistent monthly declines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Government Employment also decreased by 0.8%, still negatively impacted by declines in federal government employment, Lardaro says. Private Service-Producing Employment, a proxy for service-sector employment, also fell in November by 0.2%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
